It's not yet known as he is now at the farm and working there.
Here’s a recent pick of his.

He is going to be the first Japan-based ''dirt specialist'' to run in the biggest race in Europe!!
Will he handle the soft turf at Longchamp?
There's been a speculation among the racing community in Japan that the best dirt horse could handle better the bottomless going at Longchamp than Japanese turf specialists.
Ushba Tesoro(JPN)(Orfevre), 2023 DWC winner, will run in the BC Classic instead of the Arc!!!!
His owner changed his mind and announced that today.
Yuga Kawada will retain the mount at Santa Anita!!

Fun fun fun.

If I were the Breeder’s Cup, I’d be thrilled that the top two horses from Dubai World Cup night are targeting their races.

I would be concerned for FranceGalop that said top horses are swerving the Arc so early in the year.

I don’t think any horse is confirmed to run in the Breeder’s Cup until the last week of October, they had said it was on their radar moreso than the Arc

Glad that it seems they are letting him grow into his big frame and not rushing him.

Curious what the estimated attendance for this would be, judging from the photos, quite a lot.

I attended AR Derby and never missed once in over 20 years except during pandemic year, and I think it was just shy of 70K this time.....and i probably won't go again, sadly. it was like a cross between Spring Break and a mini-KY Derby. I could handle those crowds when I was younger; today.....not so much.

2022 Dubai Turf & 2023 Saudi Cup (dirt) winner Panthalassa(JPN)(Lord Kanaloa) will be aimed at the G1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood!!
And, if he is fine after the Sussex, he may run in the G1 International Stakes at York, too!!

That's why I like his trainer Yoshito Yahagi!! :D

I will not be surprised if he can love the European turf.
One of his most impressive performance in his career has been his maiden win on the soft turf at Kyoto in 2019.

That's big ,,,,,big ...... Amazing.

And segwaying from Orfevre ---, perhaps I am not as up on my history of Japanese racing as I should be, but "getting there"........as I was doing some research on Rasmussen Factor of some horses in the Derby (inbreeding to superior matriarchs) I learned from the Rasmussen/Faversham book that, while many are always pointing to Sunday Silence as the success of Japanese breeding, it was actaully Northern Taste who turned "modern" Japanese breeding around.

"If you ask the Yoshida’s about what Northern Taste meant to them, to this day they still beam with pride. His success laid the foundations for Shadai Stallion Station and helped the business flourish beyond measure. Teruya Yoshida has always said “Northern Taste bought all of the stallions and broodmares that we have.”

I needed a break from studying up on the KY Derby horses, and names like Kitasan Black, Orfevre, Shonan Pandora, Screen Hero, Gold Actor, Gold Ship, Stay Gold, Dream Journey, Maurice, Duramente, Rulership, Kiseki, Let’s Go Donki, d Le Vent Se Leve, Scarlet Bouquet, Daiwa Major and Daiwa Scarlet grabbed my interest, and then I got lead into the wonderful world of Northern Taste!--------I really was not aware of all his history as a broodmare sire.

That's a very good article indeed!!!
Thanks for sharing.

It was in 1972 when Zenya Yoshida ordered his son Teruya Yoshida to pick up a Northern Dancer yearling with stallion prospect at the Saratoga Sale.
According to Teruya's memoir https://www.sanspo.com/article/20170503 ... KQCVCOLDI/, there were four or five Northern Dancer yearlings at that Saratoga Sale and it was Lady Victoria's 1971 chestnut colt who caught Teruya's eye in the book 4.

Northern Taste's influence to the Japanese racing is really immense, even if he was not an excellent sire of sires.
Yeah, by Orfevre, Ushba Tesoro is a descendant of Northern Taste.
Titleholder, by Duramente, who will be sent off the hot favorite in the G1 Tenno Sho Spring on Sunday has Northern Taste, too.

THank you for sharing more of the history and helping flesh out my knowledge about Northern Taste. I will read memoir on Saturday. This is fascinating stuff. I love that photograph so much! I know who I"ll be rooting for on Sunday.
