All horses and dogs go to Heaven. Border will be waiting for you, Curtis. And all our sweet animals who have died will be there too.

Thank you and everyone else. And to Starine, Squeaky, etc. don’t worry about hijacking anything, catharsis is good wherever you can find it.
Whatever one believes in—the birth of the Savior, a jolly rotund fellow dressed in red and white, your fellow human—this time of year is special. For several years my morning routine included picking the pasture which I did after feeding the horses. Opie, our pony, was locked away so others wouldn’t steal her food. Harley, my daughter’s tank like QH, was locked away so he wouldn’t steal anyone else’s food. A.Y. and Border were not locked away. I learned this from many years running a classroom. Get the kids working and then other work—grading papers, etc.—could be done. After awhile, Border would playfully head butt me and A.Y. would tug at my sleeve. Then both would cock their heads and look at my right barn coat pocket knowing cookies were there. They’d each get one and then quietly, peacefully follow me around the pasture. That was the closest thing to Zen, I’ve ever experienced. So I see a big pasture in Heaven. A big bay and more normal sized chestnut—both with lots of chrome—waiting for their cookies.
Happy Holidays to All!!

Rest in peace to Border Run, I'm sorry I'm late to participate in the grieving. He was a spectacular horse and will be greatly missed

Curtis, you may have already seen it, but this lovely article about Secretariat’s daughter Trusted Company mentions Border Run.

Thank you I had not seen that. I just skimmed the article but if it didn’t mention it, Patricia McQueen just released a book about Secretariat’s offspring. As one can imagine as a book written by a photographer it is a visual tour de force. I believe it’s titled Secretariat’s Legacy.HB1994 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 5:46 pm Curtis, you may have already seen it, but this lovely article about Secretariat’s daughter Trusted Company mentions Border Run.

It is indeed called Secretariat’s Legacy and I have it on the couch beside me. There is a wonderful full-page photo of Border Run from 2021 in “The Survivors” chapter.Curtis wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 8:44 pmThank you I had not seen that. Yeah, Patricia sent me a copy the week it was released. One of the perks for putting her up each time she came out to photograph him, I guess. Tomorrow is Border’s foaling date. He would have actually been 35. We still miss him, along with A.Y., and I’m sure we always will.HB1994 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 11:07 pmIt is indeed called Secretariat’s Legacy and I have it on the couch beside me. I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.
