Retrospectiv wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 3:57 pm Given the creme de la creme of sires the whole clan have been bred to over their careers, they've been a largely disappointing and under performing bunch. I stand by my initial post.
7 daughters at stud, and you've got two Gr 2 winners, 1 Gr 3 winner and 1 ungraded stakes winner.
I suppose that's fair. I think it depends on perspective and definition of what makes a good broodmare or not.
To me, Vertigineaux having 2 G1Ws puts her in the elite top 0.1-0.05% of mares that have been in the stud book (statistically, a mare with her race record had a 0.2% chance of producing a single G1W, much less 2). Comparing another mare to her as a standard of a "good" mare is incredibly harsh.

Statistically, stakes winning mares produce 2.2% graded stakes winners. A simple winner has a 0.8% chance of producing graded stakes winners. So unplaced mare Treasure Trail is actually far OUT PERFORMING her peers, with a graded stakes winner under her belt. Stakes winner Where's Bailey, if she produced say 10 foals, would have a 22% chance of one of them being a graded stakes winner. A low chance, but she did it. Unraced Harley Rose (unraced mares produce 3.6% stakes winners), if she were to have 10 foals, would have a 36% chance of producing a stakes winner. She got a stakes winner in her first foal.
Eblouissante, being a race winner like her dam, would only have a 5.6% chance of having produced a graded stakes winner at this point (I think she has 7 foals of racing age). She has obviously accomplished that, and again far out performed the statistics.
So I guess it depends on your definition of performance. Compared to their dam, they have under performed (again I would argue that is an extremely high barometer, but I suppose it stands). But compared to the hard numbers, they have actually performed VERY well.

As far as the stallions go, Into Mischief produced 3.59% graded stakes winner from runners (iirc I think only 70% or so of foals make it to the track, so his graded stakes winner from foals is probably under 3%). War Front produced 3.7% GSWs from runners, again probably no more than 3% from all foals. So War Front + Treasure Trail has a really low chance of producing anything, but she now has a GSW, and a stakes placed foal.
Looking at the hard numbers, to me they are performing just fine.

Maclean's Music for 2023
That’s interesting...I know MM is very successful, but it seems odd to go from CR to him. In any case, I like the idea of trying to inject some speed into the bloodlines...

Thanks !
Yeah, they probably are. But I can't help thinking it would make a lot of sense for her to go to Gun Runner this year, given Confidence Game's success and that GR is outshining his sire. Plus, he's getting runners at all sorts of distances.
It does make sense....she’s young, maybe next year ? Maybe Uncle Mo or Curlin - they have great success with Bernardini mares

My only fear with Uncle Mo is that the resulting offspring would be big enough to pull the Budweiser wagon.

Summer Wind said on facebook that Sweetened (her unraced 4yo filly by Candy Ride) is one of the newest members of their broodmare band.

😂😂😂😂

Good point. So, Curlin or Quality Road, who also crosses well with Bernardini mares

I realized i misread her being in foal to Maclean’s Music for 2023 as her being booked to him in 2023. Have they said publicly who she is booked to yet for this season?

Well, I think she's massively pregnant in that photo.
The other photos show what an elegant neck and head she has.

Yes this is what I meant. She is a big mare but being pregnant made her huge. hahaha

I'm happy that he has his mom's black coloring.
More Than Ready also might have contributed to the color. 8-)

Anyways, this colt is drop dead handsome.

Sister Eblouissante was an above average race mare, maybe her mental issues got in the way??? And she produces a Derby candidate.

Breeding is funny.
If her progeny had a different owner and/or trainer, one (or more) of them may have won by now.
hhhooooo boy. what i wouldn't give for Zenyatta's kiddos to see a different trainer...
Same here.

I would be truly surprised if it wasn't to Gun Runner or Flightline.
