I mean, Zenyatta is one of the best race mares of all time. But can’t produce a maiden winner.

Sister Eblouissante was an above average race mare, maybe her mental issues got in the way??? And she produces a Derby candidate.

Breeding is funny.

Zen was Amazonian, a real physical outlier. Huge for a mare, but perfectly proportioned. She was a HOTY racehorse, but it may be hard to match that kind of physique with a stallion.
Ebby is a tall gal, but not as big as her sister. IMHO, it made her a more suitable broodmare prospect.
Regarding Ebby's 'mental issues?' Her interest in being a racehorse evaporated in the NY starting gate when she whacked her head on the gate so hard that she broke teeth. The vet didn't catch it, and she ran anyway. A miserable experience like that can put a horse off the whole sport...especially if they're smart enough to decide racing is just no fun.

I didn’t know that about Ebby, and it makes sense.

In zenyatta defense her owners keep sending her babies to a trainer who trains them like she was

If her progeny had a different owner and/or trainer, one (or more) of them may have won by now.

But if I recall, more lanky and elegant than Zenyatta.

Breeding is always a crapshoot. Maybe it’s just not overall a great family. Zenyatta’s sister, Balance, wasn’t a good producer. Their second dam wasn’t good, either.

Bernardini is a fantastic BMS - that doesn’t hurt

The only decent producer in that entire family has been the dam - Vertigineaux
None of the daughters have been any kind of broodmares.
I do agree with a change of trainer, some of the Zenyatta's would have at least broke their maidens. Still poor race horses though.

Where's Bailey produced multiple G2 winner She's Not Here (who has 2 winners from 2 starters herself).
Harley Rose produced stakes winner Belle of the North, her only foal to race.
Treasure Trail produced G3 winner/G1 placed Long Island Sound, who stood stud in Florida for a year or two before being exported to South America. She also produced stakes placed Telemaque, and a filly named Naples Parade who has produce G2 placed Napoleonic War.
Balance has produced 2 winners.

Now with Eblouissante producing a graded stakes winner, than means that Vertigineaux has 4 stakes producing daughters (3 of them graded stakes producing) and at least 1 stakes producing granddaughter. IMO thats far better than most mares in the country.

I’d imagine Candy Ride again, or his best son in Gun Runner. Or Flightline maybe?

That’s interesting...I know MM is very successful, but it seems odd to go from CR to him. In any case, I like the idea of trying to inject some speed into the bloodlines...

Thanks !

Yeah, they probably are. But I can't help thinking it would make a lot of sense for her to go to Gun Runner this year, given Confidence Game's success and that GR is outshining his sire. Plus, he's getting runners at all sorts of distances.

I loved More Than Ready - he could sire runners on both dirt and turf. Hope this handsome boy does well.
I'm happy that he has his mom's black coloring.

Given the creme de la creme of sires the whole clan have been bred to over their careers, they've been a largely disappointing and under performing bunch. I stand by my initial post.
7 daughters at stud, and you've got two Gr 2 winners, 1 Gr 3 winner and 1 ungraded stakes winner.
