With his racing ability and pedigree, Duramente is a tremendous loss.

What a win!!! :D :D :D

RIP. King Kamehameha (2004 Tokyo Yushun winner)
RIP. Duramente (2015 Satsuki Sho & Tokyo Yushun winner)
Bravo!!!! Titleholder (2021 Kikuka Sho winner)

This is the first time in the Japanese racing history that the Japanese-trained Classic winning colt is represented by Classic winning colts through three consecutive generations.
What an influential sire-line the King Kamehameha-line is!!!!!! 8-)

Tachyon, what a heartbreaking loss. Duramente was a wonderful horse. All we can hope for is that some of his sons go on to become successful sires.

Thank you!
And, as a side note, the Kikuka Sho winner Titleholder(JPN) was bred by Makio Okada's Okada Stud.
I wonder if some California Chrome fans know who Mr Makio Okada is.
There is some chance that Titleholder will be a stable mate of California Chrome at Arrow Stud when he retires from racing in a few years.

Here's a related post.

King Kamehameha(JPN)(Kingmambo) was crowned the 2021 best broodmare sire in Japan, both JRA Only and JRA & NAR, two years in a row.
He is quite influential as a sire of sires as well as a broodmare sire, even if his best broodmare sire title might be taken over by Deep Impact in 2022 with the latter's increasing broodmare pools.

Racing medias waste no time in emphasizing the greatness of Sunday Silence(USA) after Japanese horses' success in the 2022 Dubai World Cup Day and I'm very happy with that.
However, I believe that King Kamehameha(JPN) should also capture some international attention if we look into the pedigrees of those successful runners in Dubai.
King Kamehameha, as sire, as well as sire-of sires and broodmare-sire, supports Japanese horses very strongly both on the turf and the dirt, and, both the sprint and the long-distance.
And I always hope that this versatile Kingmambo-line stallion will get the respect he deserves!!!!!!

Titleholder(JPN), 2018C. Duramente(JPN) x Mowen(GB) by Motivator(GB), scored his 2nd G1 victory wiring the Tenno Sho 3200m turf at Hanshin under Kazuo Yokoyama on May 1st 2022!!!
His sire Duramente died too early.
But I'm sure that Titleholder will be the flagbearer for the King Kamehameha/Kingmambo sire-line in Japan.
And I would love to see him run in the Arc before retiring to stud.

It's great to see the King Kamehameha sire-line continues to do so well. :D
King Kamehameha himself sired the G1 Champions Cup winner Jun Light Bolt(JPN) two weeks back and Duramente(JPN) sired the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies winner Liberty Island(JPN) last week, too.

Both Liberty Island and Dolce More are likely to be named the JRA Juvenile champions this year. 8-)

The year 2022 was a fantastic year for the King Kamehameha sire-line that I think dominated the JRA racing overall !!!

Duramente(JPN)(King Kamehameha) sired his fourth G1 winner, as his 2yo colt Dura Erede(JPN) [o/o Marchesa(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN)] captured the G1 Hopeful Stakes 2000m turf at Nakayama under Bauyrzhan Murzabayev nosing out Top Knife[/b](JPN)(Declaration of War) at the wire on Dec 28th 2022..

It was really amazing Duramente(JPN) got another G1 winner in the last 2yo race in JRA this year after siring the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies winner Liverty Island(JPN) 10 days ago.
He claimed the Champion 2yo sire title with the money earned by Dura Erede, nailing Epiphaneia(JPN).

Thanks TDN for the wonderful report that cast spotlights on King Kamehameha's grandsons / granddaughters!! :D 8-)
He is definitely a wonderful sire of sires.

https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/k ... -the-year/
The severity of the blow to the Japanese breeding industry with the premature loss of King Kamehameha (Jpn)'s son Duramente (Jpn) continues to deepen, as no less than three of his progeny were named year end champions for 2022. A champion 3-year-old in his native land in 2015 and the Japanese Champion First-Season Sire in 2020, the dual Classic winner was fifth on the year-end sire tables in Japan.

Leading the charge for their Kingmambo sire line was Japanese Champion Older Male Titleholder (Jpn), who rattled off a trio of wins starting with the G2 Nikkei Sho in March, and then made Hanshin his playground with a brace of Group 1 wins in May and June, with the Tenno Sho (Spring) going his way followed by the Takarazuka Kinen, the former over two miles, the other over 11 furlongs. Nabbing 280 of the 288-vote total, the Okada Stud-bred Toru Kurita trainee carried the Hiroshi Yamada silks in 2022.

A Classic winner, just like Titleholder, Shadai Race Horse Company's Stars On Earth (Jpn) was named the Japanese Champion 3-Year-Old Filly (286/288 votes) for a five-race campaign last year. Second in a pair of Group 3s in January and February, she clawed out a nose victory in the G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas and added the G1 Japanese Oaks in quick succession in the spring for trainer Mizuki Takayanagi. Bred by Shadai Farm, the February foal was an unlucky third when trying for the Japanese Triple Tiara in October. Her German female family stood her in good stead in 2022, as her second dam is champion Stacelita (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}), the winner of five top-level races overall. Stacelita, in turn, is the dam of 2016 Japanese Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Soul Stirring (Jpn) (Frankel {GB}), who would go on to take the G1 Japanese Oaks.

Duramente's 2-year-old daughter Liberty Island (Jpn) was awarded the Japanese Champion 2-Year-Old Filly title. The G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies victress was also second in the G3 Artemis S. after winning her debut. Bred by Northern Racing and raced by Sunday Racing Company, the Mitsumasa Nakauchida charge is the only horse of 2022 to be a unanimous champion with 288 votes. Liberty Island's dam, the All American (Aus) mare Yankee Rose (Aus), thrived at both two and three and was named champion Down Under both years, as well as taking second in the G1 Golden Slipper to boot.

The title of Japanese Champion 2-Year-Old Male went to the three-for-three Dolce More (Jpn), who is by another son of King Kamehameha in Rulership (Jpn). Trained by Naosuke Sugai for Three H Racing Company, Ltd., the son of the Classic-winning Ayusan (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) took both the Oct. 8 G3 Saudi Arabia and the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity S. in December. Bred by Shimokobe Farm, he accrued 279 of the 288 votes.
King Kamehameha son Lord Kanaloa(JPN) had also sired champions Almond Eye(JPN)(dual Horse of the Year) and Saturnalia(JPN) before.

WOW!

The grandson of King Kamehameha(JPN) provided Japan with a really (and really!!) historic victory!!!! :D :D :D
Panthalassa(JPN), 2017H. Lord Kanaloa(JPN) x Miss Pemberley(IRE) by Montjeu(IRE), won the G1 Saudi Cup, the world's richest race, 1800m dirt under Yutaka Yoshida on Feb 25th 2023.

Panthalassa will be a very popular stallion when he enters stud, as he is free from Sunday Silence, like his sire Lord Kanaloa.
And I have now little doubt that the King Kamehameha-line will thrive in Japan for a long time as the main stream.

Panthalassa's only previous start on the dirt produced an 11th-place finish in a listed race at Nakayama Racecourse, and his sire was a highly successful turf sprinter. However, his grandsire, King Kamehameha (JPN), has produced successful dirt runners, and his name appears in the pedigrees of four Japanese Saudi Cup runners.

I'm glad that you liked it, Starine! :D
The loss of Duramente was definitely a major blow.
But, fortunately, the Kingmambo line found a new star Panthalassa who must have doubled his potential stud fee by winning his second G1 in the richest Saudi Cup on the dirt.
And there already are many more G1 performing males (including Vela Azul, Lemon Pop, Red le Zel, Dura Erede, Dolce More etc) in the pipeline.

To lose Deep Impact and now King Kamehameha in such a short period of time is heartbreaking and a huge loss for the sport. They will both be greatly missed.
Amen. He was a magnificent beast.
