Optimizer would best fit in VA or MD (or heck, the UK or Ireland) as a flat/jumps/sport sire IMO. He's a 1/2 to the good hurdler Humdinger and 2nd dam Fantastic Find produced (among other things) 3x G1-winner over fences Tax Ruling. He's a nicely-built horse as well.

Honestly they may as well sell them on since they don't support them. Either that or retire them to Old Friends. I think they've shown before they don't want pensioned stallions when they chose to sell them for under 5k. Like last year's January sale where they sold Behesht(3500) and Snapy Halo(1500). Then before that they put a large number of them in a Keeneland Digital sale, that were then withdrawn and some were sold privately and others just ended up dead. Not saying they did anything to them just that they were never seen or heard from again and then had death reports.Mylute wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 2:48 pmBig Blue Kitten, Hence, Mr. Z, Producer, Optimizer, Real Solution

Hence would probably be well-received out west (or the midwest) where he did most of his running and was successful. He is also by a breed-to-race sire.
Maybe Calumet should try having regional stallions a bit more. They can still keep shares.
Also IIRC Mr. Z has decent numbers and also the decent turf filly Eminent Victor. He could probably go anywhere.

They baffle me really... They put seasons for all these stallions in the recent (or ongoing) Iowa, Ohio and Indiana Thoroughbred Breeders stallion season auctions. Breedings to at least 2 of them did receive bids in the Ohio auction, I just don't know if there was a reserve. None of them sold in Iowa, though they are all back up as 2nd chance auctions, and the Indiana one starts Dec. 16th. All these stallions are still on there. Like wouldn't the person who bought the season be able to go back on them? I know the seasons are sold as "No Guarantee" but that means "No Guarantee you get a foal", not "No Guarantee we will even own the stallion when the breeding shed opens".

Given Calumet's tendency to breed lower tier and low amount of mares, I really don't think majority of these stallions have even had a fair shake at whether they'd be good stallions or not. Majority have decent pedigrees and less than 70 foals in total.Mylute wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 2:48 pm Big Blue Kitten, Hence, Mr. Z, Producer, Optimizer, Real Solution

Regardless, I hope for a safe landing for all of them

I thought that Calumet did have regional stallions at one point (I'm positive Lentenor was one and stood in Indiana) and then they ended up selling them off eventuallyMylute wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 7:28 pm Hence would probably be well-received out west (or the midwest) where he did most of his running and was successful. Risque Remarque and Musketier. I shouldn't say they were never seen or heard from again, I meant it more as in that was the last time they were mentioned by Calumet. I don't think they did anything bad to them. I think it might have been you that said Risque Remarque was sold to Florida or something but he died that year either way.TapitsGal wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 1:09 pmWho had death reports?Flanders wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 5:23 pmHonestly they may as well sell them on since they don't support them. i wonder if they will ever close their stallion operation. it's a shame Calumet is not even a shadow of what it once was...Mylute wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 2:48 pmBig Blue Kitten, Hence, Mr. Z, Producer, Optimizer, Real Solution

Yeah sometime in 2021, when I was trying to find him, I found he had a death report. There was never anything said anywhere. I posted it here though when I saw it.
I mean it hasn't been since Lundy took over in the early 80s and ran it into the ground. Henryk de Kwiatkowski never stood many stallions, I think 2 was the most he had while he owned Calumet. Of course he bought the farm long after his stallion Danzig had been established at Claiborne so he didn't move him.
