Great Wind in Her Hair(GB), the dam of Deep Impact(JPN) and Black Tide(JPN), looks well and active at the age of 31.
Her matings with Sunday Silence really made history.

Unfortunately Winxie did not get in foal and will skip this year for breeding. She and her filly are doing well though. https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... n-time-off

Video of 2001 Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal taken today. She is 25yo pensioned and enjoying life. Her daughters and granddaughters are doing a tremendous job keeping the family going.

I was thrilled when she won the Melbourne Cup. I liked Rhythm when he was racing and he didn't sire much of note in the US or Japan. So it made me really happy when he got a daughter to win such a prestigious race.

[/quote] Took a tour of Gainsway in May. We were told this was her last foal. Also with her last foal was Balleto (UAE). Our guide said they are retired around age 20.

Thats good to hear that the farm have a 'set' age to retire. I always ensure to visit Balletto when I am in the area. First saw her at Jonabell on the year they opened up the mares.
Anyone know who Folk was bred if she was.

She is owned by Courtlandt Farms. She wasn't bred after producing her 2019 colt, Final Film, in Florida. As far as I know that was her only foal born in Florida so perhaps they decided since she was 19, they'd just pension her at their farm in Ocala. She doesn't have a death report. Her dam Miss Du Bois, who just turned 29, is at Old Friends. Courtlandt keeps their producing mares at Lanes End, I believe.flytpthestars wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 11:54 pm Whete is Film Maker? Thank you! Looks like there is no FB page or any website/email for the farm.Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 2:28 amShe is owned by Courtlandt Farms. Why is this mare in a racing Quarter Horse mixed sale?
https://catalogs.robinglenn.com/account ... catID=1769
Home Rule by Empire Maker out of Meghan's Joy, so bred for 12 furlongs at minimum. Has been bred to some very nice stallions in the past and has produced several winners, though for 2023 she's in foal to Shakin It Up who's more popular with QH mares. Last sold at KEEJAN22 for $20k to a Rex Sparkman, but she certainly won't get that much here. QH sales prices are lousy since the market is so flooded and she's the exact opposite of the kind of TB mare QH breeders would want.
Sale is next weekend https://www.heritageplace.com/services- ... ixed-sale/

I'd guess the owner didn't want to pay to transport to a sale out of state and just went with the closest decent auction. There are other thoroughbred mares in the sale that are in foal to TB stallions. A lot of breeders in that area do both TB and QH. I agree she wouldn't appeal to QH breeders but maybe a TB breeder will pick her up. They used to have a TB auction at the same place but it appears they discontinued it a few years ago. I'm not familiar with regional TB auctions so not sure what other options there are.

Sweet Life passed away. There was a mention below
"Bred and owned by Pam and Martin Wygod, Sweet Life resided at Lane's End Farm since 2008 and was retired from the broodmare band in 2018. She will be buried in the cemetery at Lane's End Farm. Her daughters, Sweet Catomine and Life Is Sweet are now retired from the broodmare band and reside at Lane's End."
Sound like Life is Sweet and Seet Catomine are now pensioned?
