I don't think this is where he is standing. That is his racing owners. I think they just want people to know he will be standing in 2023.

Too bad, I think he’d do much better in FL than KY

It sounded like they were thinking NY, not KY.

Oh, thanks...NY is good, too. He actually deserves a shot in KY, but considering his pedigree, he wouldn’t get much of a shot. NY will be better for him.

They said something about his dam's 1/2 brother, King for a Day, having been popular since he went to stud in NY. He's by Uncle Mo, which probably explains a lot of it. But Mind Control's race record is far more impressive.

Mind Control was a really neat horse - and sound, too. There are questions about his sire line, but he’s a real racehorse...He’ll be fun to follow - I’ve been looking for one to root for, and I actually forgot about him...

Annoying to read stuff like this. Can you really say "it's the pedigree" when you have, for example, Army Mule (Fresian Fire/Crafty Prospector) in Kentucky?

That’s true, but he was extremely fast...(I had to check Equibase as I didn’t remember him at all). I think speed often trumps pedigree. MC was very good, very honest, but he wasn’t all that brilliant. Combine that with his pedigree, and I guess it’s problematic,

I think in much the same way that Honor AP is suffering a poor response (considering his talent, record and looks) due to his sire, Mind Control is suffering the taint of his sire and grand sire (Bermie is a brilliant BMS, but not at all successful as a sire of sires). I find these comments really kind of sad - MC deserves better.

**And, he just won the Cigar Mile - what a fantastic send off for him!

They are really packing in the new sires for 2023. I guess they have to make up for not having any this year.

I like how Candy Ride is now only special because he’s the sire of Gun Runner… “Epicenter is the best son of Giant’s Causeway’s best sire son Not This Time and us out of a stakes winner by the sire of Gun Runner”.

I mean, Gun Runner has been outstanding at stud - but Candy Ride is far more than the sire of him. Gun Runner wasn’t even his best son on the track.

Happy that Epicenter is doing well.

I also take issue with that quote for a different reason, calling Not This Time the best sire son of Giant’s Causeway. C’mon now. Definitely best US based, but considering how small Shamardal’s books had to be towards the end, he was an exceptional stallion by any measure.

Ignoring the ignominious name, he's not a bad-looking horse, and his pedigree may make him a useful regional stallion.
If you were a small breeder, gambling on that bloodline wouldn't be the worst thing you could do.

Kind of have to agree here
Uncle Mo has some up and coming sons at stud, and this guy's dam is a full to Curlin to Mischief (also unraced..) who is the leading 4th crop sire in California right now, even though he was pensioned early due to fertility issues.
Though also unraced and terribly named, this guy represents a nice replacement for CTM for California
