That is according to Coolmore's site. I've seen it change before though.
Is it just me or is that a bargain? By uncle mo,is a two time breeders cup winner, he was a monster on the track he had only what, two off races?

If it's the two starts I'm thinking of, you could say that it was the jockey who had the 'off' days.

He had 3 off the board finishes, 2 in the UK and then the Turf Sprint. But he has his extreme speed and sire going for him. US breeders have shown an aversion to using turf stallions but maybe they'll give him more of a chance because he is a sprinter and not a router. There isn't anyone to compare him to that was a US based Turf Sprinter that also went to stud in the US. The only ones I could come up with to compare him to all had dirt form as well. The division just feels new because it was pretty much ignored by the Graded Stakes Committee until the BC Turf Sprint was made a G1(which was definitely pushed by the BC). Then because of how the Graded Stakes Committee works it took a few years to show that other races needed upgraded, so they are slowly getting more Graded turf sprints.

We know Coolmore rarely supports their new stallions. They wait until other breeders prove if the stallion should be bred to or not. But it would be kind of cool if they sent Campanelle to him but doubt they will. He wasn't on the list they mentioned as possible breedings.

I think he’s a good price. He’s big and beautiful, fast, ran through 2-4 (not a lot of races, but over 10!). It’s still early days for Uncle Mo as a sire of sires assessment, but Nyquist has done well. His female family is ok.
I mean, he’s a rocket ship. From a sire who produces anything from this guy to a Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner!

Maybe some breeders will throw him a bone hoping he can throw dirt winners.

He was never tried on dirt, so surely that's "better" than having run on dirt and absolutely bombed.

I don't understand the concept of acquiring a stallion, only to not support him with your own mares (Coolmore).

He did debut on the dirt and finished 2nd but that was April of his 2yo year. So I think that is why its never brought up, not really a brag to run 2nd in a MSW at Gulfstream in April. Watching the replay he had his brilliant speed on the dirt, just got caught at the end. So truly there is no reason to think he couldn't have run well on the dirt if he was tried again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JumJpx6yIJ8

I'm pretty sure 5 1/2 furlongs was his max distance tried. Who knows why, maybe they knew he couldn't carry that blazing speed further? Or sometimes its just best not to mess with something that is working. Also, I know Ward has trained horses that won stakes at longer distances but I think of him as a 2yo and sprinter trainer.

I think if Wesley Ward has a two year old that shows even a sparkle of speed, he isn’t going to bother trying it past 6f. Ward said in one interview or the other that he wished the Keeneland BC Turf Sprint was over 5f, as shorter was better for GP’s running style. If the horse was with Baffert, I’m sure we wouldve seen him do well in 6f dirt sprints, maybe even dirt miles. But Ward’s bread and butter is turf sprints and targetting Royal Ascot.

Two German stallions are being relocated.

G2SW Fearless King (Kingman - Astrelle, by Makfi) is going to Turkey. He is a 1/2 to G1 McKulick and G3 Just Beautiful. 2022 was his first season at stud. I saw this on the Turkish Jockey Clubs site.

G1SW Ito (Adlerflug - Iota, by Tiger Hill) is moving to Yorton, UK. He is a full brother to G1 In Swoop. Yorton stands National Hunt stallions so it makes sense they bought him. In Swoop covered 217 at Coolmore's NH stud this year. https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/i ... rton-stud/

random question - what determines whether a stallion will be used for NH or flat racing? given they all come from flat racing backgrounds. how do they pick which one should be "best" for the jumps scene?

If the stallion has won over 12f or longer, that usually ticks a box. In addition to that, like in the case of of Ito and In Swoop, German bloodlines have become coveted as of late. Germans are a bastion of breeding for sound, durable horses that can stay 12f+ on all kinds of ground. If I had a nickel for every time I head read/heard a pundit use the phrase “_____ horse comes from a stout German pedigree” I would have at least 5 bucks, haha.

That coveted German influence is increased tenfold if the horse happens to be a son or grandson of Monsun. Unfortunately it wasn’t until after he died in 2012 that it became clear that he was capable of producing star stayer after star stayer, including Estimate, as well as three Melbourne Cup winners.

Of course Coolmore has the monetary upper hand, so they have been scooping up any sons of Monsun, even a horse like Maxios, who was more of a miler but did win at up to 10f. They also stand Getaway and Vadamos and only sold Ocavango this year.

Monsun sons are long out of production, but there are still some young-ish Alderflugs out there. Alderflug was just hitting his stride as a sire when he died suddenly aged 17 in 2021. Im sure Coolmore and Yorton are thinking ahead and betting that if one dominant German sire (Monsun) can produce tough staying colts, and said colts produce tough staying jumps horses, then why can’t another (somewhat less dominant sire, Alderflug) do the same?

The only stallion prospect in the Keeneland November sale, Town Bee (Jersey Town x Bees) sold for $3K to Dr. Betty Hughes.

The full brother to Bee Jersey won twice from four starts.

Dr. Hughes recently purchased Louisiana stallion Cameo Appearance to stand in Manitoba.

That's wonderful news!
Mr Harry Sweeney at Darley Japan has a good eye. 8-)
Will Take Charge has had five starters in JRA to date, four of whom are already winners.
I would think that he will stay in Japan for years,
