Well. There are other proven stallions who are less.
Including Tapit’s best sire son to date, Constitution at $110,000. He’s more than Tapit…
He’s priced the same (or close to) CURLIN, Quality Road, Into Mischief.
This is funny to me. No doubt he was brilliant, but in all reality:
The chances of him producing himself, so unlikely.
The chances of him being a good sire, maybe the first couple crops are knock-out, or maybe not. Good mares help.
The chances of him staying at that price - VERY slim.
I look forward to the next couple of years to 10 years. Time will tell!

Yup, other than for commercial pinhookers, $200,000 is a very risky fee
The other stallions at those fees have earned them through results.
The few stallions in the past few decades that started at a fee like that ended up having a quick market adjustment (Ghostzapper, American Pharoah, Fusaichi Pegasus, Point Given, Smarty Jones, etc)

I mean, if he books full, he’s priced right (head scratcher), but Wow, I am still shocked at this price and Life Is Good at $100,000.

Listening to I think it was David Ingordo talking to Steve Byk, each of the 40 syndicate shares includes two breeding rights, so there's 80 mares. Then there are going to be breeding rights owners, which he said could be between 10-20. So that's around 100 mares accounted for already (who will most likely not be paying the full $200,000). Of course operations like Hronis Racing aren't very much in the breeding game and only own 4 or 5 mares, as per Kosta Hronis, so he'll probably sell some or most of his seasons this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Lane's End scoops them up.

So... considering that, they don't need to find 200 mare owners to spend $200,000 to fill his book, they only need to find 100, maybe a bit more.

I have to admit that I've never been totally clear on what's it means when a stallion, like Gun Runner particularly, goes from an advertised stud fee to "Private". Can someone explain this to me, just so I can get it straight in my head. Or am I making too much of it?

I would assume that he is just booked full and has been booked full for a long time, but they are listing him private because they'd let "the right" mare in. Like Galileo who was Private since 2008. Gun Runner wouldn't fit in this scenario but sometimes its when they aren't sure what to charge for the stallion. They don't want to lower his fee publicly, so they'll put the stallion on private and see what kind of interest they get and probably charge less. Pretty sure that is why American Pharoah was Private in 2020.

I agree, but Early Voting is by Gun Runner, which is why I was comparing him to Cyber. They are the two sons (as of now) of Gun Runner retiring for 2023.

Cyberknife is related to Well Armed, Life Well Lived, etc. while EV is a nephew of Speightstown, Irap, etc. The latter is more commercially popular at present. I think $15K would have been more reasonable for EV.
