Aga Khan Studs

Gilltown
Sea The Stars - €180,000 (from €150,000)

Haras De Bonneval
Siyouni - €150,000 (from €140,000)
Zarak - €60,000 (from €25,000)
Dariyan €5,000 (same)

Huge jump for Zarak. He hasn’t had a G1 winner yet but a bunch of group winners and 11% stakes winners to runners. I would imagine he’s only going to gain more momentum as his books get better in quality. Love that Zarkava’s best foal is making a mark as a stallion.

Cheveley Park

Ulysses - £10,000 (same)
Twilight Son - £7,000 (same)
Mayson - £6,000 (same)
Unfortunately - €3,500 (same, standing in Ireland)

£80,000 for Baaeed seems very reasonable. I hope he can be their next Green Desert

I have to admit that I've never been totally clear on what's it means when a stallion, like Gun Runner particularly, goes from an advertised stud fee to "Private". Can someone explain this to me, just so I can get it straight in my head. Or am I making too much of it?

TIA!!

Interesting. On the Stallion Register, he's still listed as standing at Three Chimneys, except for a private fee.

He never returned to the US for 2021. I would assume he is in Chile where he shuttled to for Southern Hemisphere duty. I'll try to look around and see if I can confirm anything.

Well. There are other proven stallions who are less.
Including Tapit’s best sire son to date, Constitution at $110,000. He’s more than Tapit…
He’s priced the same (or close to) CURLIN, Quality Road, Into Mischief.
This is funny to me. No doubt he was brilliant, but in all reality:
The chances of him producing himself, so unlikely.
The chances of him being a good sire, maybe the first couple crops are knock-out, or maybe not. Good mares help.
The chances of him staying at that price - VERY slim.
I look forward to the next couple of years to 10 years. Time will tell!

Yup, other than for commercial pinhookers, $200,000 is a very risky fee
The other stallions at those fees have earned them through results.
The few stallions in the past few decades that started at a fee like that ended up having a quick market adjustment (Ghostzapper, American Pharoah, Fusaichi Pegasus, Point Given, Smarty Jones, etc)
