to be fair, most first weanlings sires didn't really sell suuuuuper well in general, apart from Authentic. i wouldn't be too concerned about this right now.

The one out of America’s Friend went for $30,000 - disappointing for a nice looking filly. HAP didn’t get a good book of mares, so add that to the stink of his sire.. .and, I don’t think it’s looking good.
Thank you!

nvm, for some reason i thought the majority had low numbers. but as i said still i wouldn't be too worried. unfortunately every year there will be a stallion or two among the "top" retirees that just don't do well compared to their peers.Slewfan2 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 4:10 pmActually several first crop sires sold well..brunanas wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 12:27 pmto be fair, most first weanlings sires didn't really sell suuuuuper well in general, apart from Authentic. i wouldn't be too concerned about this right now.

I'm pretty sure Marie Jones is still alive. She was younger than her husband. The entity buying horses is "Aaron and Marie Jones LLC," so I would assume that they just didn't change the company/LLC name after he died.Missbeholder wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 8:47 amAaron Jones died in 2014 at 92 years old. I'm almost positive that his wife, Marie, died a few years ago as well, though I can't confirm that. I wonder what's up with this!

Thanks for that, mariasmon. I could have sworn I heard or read that Marie had passed on. If she's still alive, that makes perfect sense.mariasmon wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 11:17 amI'm pretty sure Marie Jones is still alive. She was younger than her husband. I found an Owner Breeder article from 2020 that says Yoshiyuki Ito’s Grand Farm. They bought Cherokee Maiden in 2020 and Bye Bye Baby in 2021. Cherokee Maiden's Kizuna filly went through the 2022 Select Weanling Sale and was sold by Grand Stud. So maybe that is the right name? All the US/EU articles have called it Grand Farm. They also bought Caledonia Road in 2018, her foal was in the sale, as well as Argentinian G1SW American Song(ARG)'s foal. In 2015 they bought Dreamwriter, a winning 1/2 sister to G1 Carpe Diem, J.B.'s Thunder, G2 Farrell. They bought Gardenia(FR) at some point, she is a 1/2 to MG1 Elusive Kate.

Horses travel 10 miles a day for water or get eaten in the wild, so maybe that's not the best standard.SukiSatsuki wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:47 pmPersonally I don’t like it but it happens in the wild all the time so I don’t see why people get so mad over it

If that’s the case, then get rid of veterinarians. Let the horses run free in the fields. Let the stallions fight it out for their herds of mares. Circle of life, right?SukiSatsuki wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 8:43 amCause that’s the circle of life?Gemini wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 3:03 amHorses travel 10 miles a day for water or get eaten in the wild, so maybe that's not the best standard.SukiSatsuki wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:47 pm

I think it's wrong and purely motivated by greed.
These are babies, they are not physically or even possibly more important, emotionally mature.
You're putting a stress on their own growing bodies and take a very large risk that they will not accept a foal and motherhood at that age.
The rare ones do, but if it were up to me I'd not even register foals from mares bred at 2. If you can't afford to give them at least another year to grow and mature before breeding them there's $omething wrong.
Breeding them at 3 to foal out at 4 is bad enough.
And I've no time of day for this 'they do it in the wild' retardery
