I watched a tvg replay of modern games race. The announcer never even mentioned domestic spending pulling up. Didn't sit right with me

I mean, I think everyone knows there is a 95% chance this is his last run, just like you know you only have 2 more Bulldog runs.

I don't think so. It might sound weird, but he actually ran really really well. Everyone knew going into this that he can't handle 10f, so they can just spin it as "ran with Flightline for a mile," and no harm done. He's a very good horse and will do just fine at stud, I'm sure.

I don't like Winstar, but I appreciate that they actually tried to win the race. It's not really a given in the sport these days.

The NBC broadcast was good about providing updates on all the injuries, again I'm not sure what the hysteria is about.

Bulldog has "danced every dance" around the Grand Circuit this season, so to speak, so it doesn't feel nearly as disappointing.

I saw someone say "flightline isn't as good as authentic" and was like idk how one can make that argument

"baaad fade?" I thought LIG ran a terrific race. He wins half the BCC's in the last 10 years.

I was wondering what happened to Epicenter but when I looked at the replay I saw the outriders galloping back along the backstretch and I was pretty sure something had happened--wondered why it wasn't mentioned. I guess they thought they could ignore it, unlike with poor Mongolian Groom. :(
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

No, his fee should stand. He is a brilliant sprinter that can stretch out a bit. Just this distance was a bit too much for him.

Now that's a step too far. I guess just looking at raw times since Authentic set the track record in his Classic?

i agree he ran a terrific race. my comment was more to do with how he faded from 2nd to 5th.

I hope Epicenter is going to be ok, but they're not going to know more until he arrive at Rood & Riddle, gets x-rays, and is evaluated by their surgical team. There's nothing else to say about it for now, no point for the commentators to repeat the same thing over and over.

I'm impressed that Life is Good/Flightline ran the first 6f faster than the final time in the sprint. Props to LiG's owners for running him the classic when he could have won the sprint and very likely the dirt mile. And amazing that Flightline ran that fast... and then continued it. I'll be curious to see if the final time is revised.
I hope he runs next year. If he doesn't, I'll be mildly annoyed, but I'll move on.

IF....Flightline wasn't in the race, Life Is Good probably would have hung on for the win. There was nobody else to pressure him throughout and the interior fractions would have been much easier thus leaving something in the tank for the final 1/8th. A legit "Lone F" winner based on the shape of the race.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

some idiot on Twitter is reporting both Epicenter and Domestic Spending as having been euthanized. this hasn't been confirmed anywhere FYI. i don't understand the point . just a warning to everyone in here in case anyone else sees that stupid tweet. don't believe it.

That actually a fractional error caused by the outrider tripping the timer as they ran to get Epicenter. The 3/4 time was, per Trakus, 1:09.20. Very fast! But not faster than the Sprint.

That’s the thing about being a front running speed horse, pressure makes winning harder.

Fantastic race by Flightline. I thought he would go in under 2:00 too though. Hope Epicenter is ok - the fact that they had to put a splint on means is likely a more serious injury but hope he pulls through. I think running in the BC off a 15 mo layoff was too big an ask for Domestic Spending -really hope he is ok too- perhaps retirement is the best plan. Not a great day for Steve Asmussen. Bob wanted to beat all the other 3 yos with Taiba and he did that, albeit with Epicenter getting hurt . Proud of Olympiad getting second. What a day for Bill Mott.
