It is to some extent the trainer's responsibility to ensure that they can get their horse properly conditioned without Lasix. All the 2yo races at most of the major tracks (but not in Iowa) now are off-lasix so the bigger trainers are used to itBaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 3:18 pm Tyler's Tribe bled badly.
There isn't any Lasix allowed in the BC races, and so incidents like this may happen again today.

Same... but hopefully he's wrong in the Turf tomorrow!CoronadosQuest wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 3:18 pm My betting strategy is always "if Appleby thinks the horse is good enough to win this race, so do I"

I don't know if it's just me but if a horse can't run without lasix maybe they shouldn't run at all

Bleeding occurs in a huge majority of horses at some point in their career. Bleeding from the nostrils, not so much- but it really isn't as simple as putting them into separate "bleeder" and "non-bleeder" boxes. Environmental conditions and race exertion can also increase the risks of bleeding in ways that horsemen can't as easily prepare for or control.Palace Malice wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 3:24 pm I don't know if it's just me but if a horse can't run without lasix maybe they shouldn't run at all
Regardless of the politics, this unfortunate incident is part of the risk calculus the BC made when it banned Lasix from the event. It's also perhaps an argument against halfway measures- either ban everywhere it or allow it everywhere, because it isn't really fair to anyone, horses included, otherwise.
Edited to add that Tyler's Tribe set a very fast pace on an unfamiliar surface- those are very tough circumstances, and it's possible he would have bled even through Lasix. Unfortunately, one severe incident predisposes a horse to another- but hopefully he comes out of it okay and is ready for a return to dirt.

The coverage overall has been excellent, all focused on the races, interviewing a variety of connections, and I think they've only mentioned Flightline twice so far lol.

Agreed, and I liked how they followed up with Tyler's Tribe when they didn't have to, but shhhh, don't jinx it!Miss Woodford wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 4:03 pm The coverage overall has been excellent, all focused on the races, interviewing a variety of connections, and I think they've only mentioned Flightline twice so far lol.
Reeling over Xigera at 3-1 from that 12 post. Pleasant Passage also bet way way down off her ML. This is not a race you want to bet a short price in!
Meanwhile, Cave Rock appears to be 1-5 or so in the doubles...

Everybody was proudly enunciating "Big ASS Fans" at the draw, so I think it's just a network decisionMiss Woodford wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 4:16 pm Did Big Ass Fans remove the "Ass" from their name? Cowards.
