Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant has been retired to the paddocks she will stay in France and will be served by a European Stallion next year.

She's staying in FRANCE? I thought she was returning to her home in New Zealand. :?
If she isn't being bred until 'next year,' does that mean this breeding will be on NH time? For a foal who will be raised and trained in Europe?
Wow.

Wow.
"The Verry Elleegant story is far from over, and we now look forward to the next chapter in her remarkable story, her life as a mum! The plan is to keep her in the pristine fields of France until she can be served by a leading European stallion in Northern Hemisphere time next year."

She’ll be covered by a European stallion on NH time. I would assume Dubawi or Frankel. Even if she foals on NH time, it’s not like the progeny could never race down under. I doubt she’d be producing any Golden Slipper candidates, so even if they do plan on sending her foals back to Australia, it’s not like they’ll be hopeless due to being NH bred. More than likely though they’ll keep her and her progeny in Europe for a few years to see how the results pan out before sending her back home I’d imagine.

It’s strange on social media because all summer and autumn you’ve seen her die-hard Zenyatta and Chromie-esque fans calling for her to be retired and bred. Now that she’s being retired and bred, they’re saying it’s cruel to “rush” her into breeding on NH time and she should have a year off before being bred in Australia in 2023. Can’t win.

Also, in case anyone is in the market for a former ante post favourite for the Epsom Derby, High Definition and three other group calibre horses have been added to the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale by Ballydoyle

This news makes me tremendously happy. Really liked Roaring Lion when he was racing and was heartbroken when he passed so young.

“Six years ago, this short film was made about a 12-year-old lad from Donegal called Dylan Browne McMonagle that wanted to be a jockey.

Fast forward to today and he's the reigning/defending Champion Apprentice Jockey in Ireland and rode his first Group 1 winner on the Joseph O'Brien-trained Al Riffa in the National Stakes at the Curragh last month”

If you have five minutes, give it a watch. It’s a stylish little film and you can’t help but root for the kid.

Hope he has the genetics and body type to be successful long-term. So hard to keep weight down when fighting this.

For a "small chip in the right knee" which doesn't seem like an injury worth retiring a 2yo for :?

I'll miss his pre-race antics, but this was one that a lot of people saw coming. He's by a sire known for precocious foals, he's raced A LOT for a Coolmore 2 yr old, and he's a bit of a bad boy. I think the retirement has more to do with a 'strike-while-the-iron's-hot' mentality as well as the very real possibility that when Blackbeard hits 'pony puberty' he may be more of a bad boy than the tracks can handle than a minor knee chip. I'm not worried about his temperament. After all, some of the best sires in history have been ones that have had to wear muzzles or had handlers that carried baseball bats.

Joseph O’Brien had said he was phasing out of jumps racing, but I guess he’ll be in it for at least another few years if people keep sending him these promising prospects. Super interested to see High Definition over fences, these higher rated staying horses usually get sold on to race in the Middle East or Australia as of late.

Do you know if he is attached to a stable or freelancing?
Interested to see how he fares.
FD will be on to him like a shot, given his showmanship & TV persona.
Is he riding at the Breeders Cup?
