They really named their colt, "Mare."
Mare means the sea in Latin. Mare Australis means Southern Sea.

Broken Vow 50%
Carpe Diem 36%
Faversham 47%
Gio Ponti 22%
Heart to Heart 45%
Ironicus 50%
McCraken 18% :? - not suuuuper well-known i guess, but decided to include him anyways... he's still very young and his fertility rate is far worse than the old stallions mentioned above.
Mizzen Mast 10%
Mohaymen 48%
Protonico 36% - also a bit worrying for an 11 year old?
Shancelot 50%

also, BloodHorse lists Tale of the Cat, Broken Vow and Mizzen Mast as having been pensioned for 2021...? so i don't know what's happening here.

and lastly but not least, this might be a dumb question, but what's the difference between Mares Bred and Reports Received? i never understood that.
Tale of the Cat, Broken Vow and Mizzen Mast were pensioned in 2021. But they all covered mares last year. Afleet Alex was also pensioned.

Mares bred is how many different mares they covered. Reports received is a report to the Jockey Club of the outcome of the breeding (i.e. Live foal, aborted foal, not pregnant, dead foal, slipped, etc). A lot of breeders don't seem to submit anything if the mare didn't get in foal or lost the pregnancy early. Also if the mare was sent outside of the US to foal, she might not show up, or the breeder could be really late submitting the report, or the mare could have died after being bred.

An example of an owner who didn't send in a report is in the Keeneland November Sale, Hip 3's produce record. Her 2018 just says No Report.. https://catalog.keeneland.com/november- ... p/0003?103

^ this. Also it’s pronounced “mar-eh”, at least that’s how the french callers pronounced it.

Triple G1 winner Perfect Power has been retired to Darley Dalham Hall

https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/b ... wKBrrafy34

It’s a shame he tailed off towards the end of the year, but when he was on his A game he was very exciting. Also didn’t realize how good his pedigree was further back on his dam’s side.

Very happy news! Art Collector was foaled at Claiborne so I'd always hoped he'd end up there. Definitely one of my favorites from the past few years.

I guess we could argue about Stay Thirsty, but he's the leading sire in CA, so I'd call him successful enough. Another son, Marking, is the leading sire in NM and just had a daughter win a G2 at Keeneland.

Depends on your definition of successful, I guess

$15,000 - STAY THIRSTY - MG1W Mind Control, G1W Golden Leaf (ARG), G1W Jack of Hearts (ARG), MG2W Coal Front, etc.
Uruguay - ALGORITHMS - G1W Math Wizard, G3W Recruiting Ready, G3W Rich Mommy, etc.
S. Korea - TO HONOR AND SERVE - G1W Eskimo Kisses, MG2W Mr. Freeze, G3W Salute With Honor, etc.

$2,000 - WILBURN - G2W Lovely Bernadette, G3W Zuzanna, G3W India Mantuana, etc.
$4,000 - MARKING - G2W Slammed

Yeah it really depends on your definition of success.

Bernardini has several sons who have produced G1Ws and several graded winners in general, but they didn't have the numbers to stay at the big Kentucky farms. That, or someone made a sale offer the Kentucky farm couldn't refuse. Stay Thirsty's first few California-bred crops have done well.

Same thing with Tiznow, actually.

Details about Baaeed and Minzaal’s stud careers to be announced later this week

https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/s ... this-week/

It sounds like the main question is whether they stand at Nunnery in England or Derrinstown in Ireland. Tbh most of their top prospects stand in England so I would be surprised if Baaeed didn’t stand there.

They also said that Baaeed’s full brother, Hukum, is back in training. He suffered a “career ending” injury in the Coronation Cup this Spring but it sounds like he make a full recovery.

At the time, they specifically said it was NOT a career-ending injury, just a serious one.

He was such a handsome devil and Arrowfield promoted him big time when he retired.
I'd not been able to find him until I read that article the other day.
he's apparently in Tunisia siring sporthorses. https://twitter.com/tajraasi/status/158 ... Hyv0w&s=19

Wow. Were his numbers really that bad? Ultimately he was only a G1P, G3W, but how do you go from Arrowfield to Tunisia?

Baaeed has been officially retired and will stand at Shadwell’s Nunnery stud. Fee tbd. I would guess £75,000, but we shall see.

Galileo Gold moves to Al Shaqab’s Haras De Bouquetot in France from Tally Ho Stud in Ireland.

https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/g ... -tally-ho/

Haras de Bouquetot has also said that Toronado will remain in Australia, which isn’t too surprising, he has had better results down there. He stands for $80,000 at Swettenham Stud, versus €8,000 in France.
