Julia Shining (Curlin x Dreaming of Julia) just won the 6th at Keeneland, a 7-furlong MSW for 2yo fillies, in such impressive fashion that the TVG analysts were falling all over themselves trying to find adjectives. After a not-wonderful start, she made a move up the backstretch to pass most of the field, and then zoomed by the rest coming around the last turn five wide.
Yeah, the full sister to Malathaat looked really good.

1:29.43 for 7f, though…. Or is the track at Keeneland slow today?

The DRF article said its seven furlongs and 184 feet. She got a 71 beyer. Not really sure why they chose to make that distance, its kind of odd.

Somehow I’m always surprised when I remember that Stonestreet owns both Dreaming of Julia and Cavorting. How fun is must be to watch their fillies battle it out on the track!

(Maybe even more fun next year since they retained both of the full sisters to Malathaat and Clairiere, haha.)

She was barren in both 2021 and 2022? What a shame...

Potus (Lemon Drop Kid x Place of Honor), a...say it with me folks...Phipps-bred formerly trained by Shug McGaughey now in the barn of Jack Fisher...won the second maiden hurdle at Great Meadow today. 2nd dam is My Flag, 3rd dam Personal Ensign.

Tapwood (Tapit x Better Lucky), was 2rd in the first maiden hurdle. Zarkallani (Invincible Spirit x Zarkava), who has repeatedly shown he wants no part of jumps racing, was pulled up.

ETA: She finished 2nd, after leading into the stretch, got passed by Kaling (Practical Joke). Has the Wesley Ward speed, but may need a bit of seasoning to gain some stamina.

Rarify broke her maiden at Keeneland yesterday in her third start.
