TVG has started promoting Bulldog's race later at The Red Mile (race 11), but it looks like they might not be showing other races on the card. With racing from Gulfstream, Keeneland and Santa Anita, TVG's programming is a bit crowded.

Wow...huge upset at the Red Mile, as Allywag Hanover defeats Bulldog in 1:46. Equals but doesn't beat the track record.

Shaping up to be a very busy weekend.
Far Hills races including the G1 Grand National hurdle - overnight just came out https://nationalsteeplechase.com/wp-con ... tries1.pdf The Grand National at least is supposed to be shown on NYRA Youtube/FS2/America's Day at the Races whatever it's called broadcast, not sure about the rest of the card.
And the International Trot at Yonkers! Back after a 2-year COVID hiatus. Atlanta was pulled out of the event to focus on the upcoming Breeders Crown but the field is still excellent. The race's website has information and video of them https://www.yonkersinternationaltrot.com/
It's a 1 1/4 mile race, which gives a slight edge to the European horses who are used to running past a mile.

Buncha stuff for Far Hills tomorrow - which will be on America's Day at the Races on FS2/Youtube! So you can watch British Champions Day in the morning and then Far Hills in the afternoon
TV info + how to bet https://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/news/amer ... n-saturday
TGSF Newsletter https://myemail.constantcontact.com/We- ... uMOddipQoc
PPs for the American Grand National https://twitter.com/USASteeplechase/sta ... 6887830529
NSA preview of the undercard races https://nationalsteeplechase.com/far-hi ... ting-card/
Ashwell Stables/Leslie Young made short videos for each horse she has entered tomorrow and they all look like total sweethearts https://twitter.com/AshwellStable also Clubbing's mini is the most adorable thing I have ever seen
Joe Clancy article on Snap Decision + Jack Fisher https://thisishorseracing.com/news/snap ... -national/
Joe Clancy article on Hewick + Shark Hanlon https://thisishorseracing.com/news/hanl ... th-hewick/
Interesting different perspectives from the trainers on the race - Fisher saying that there's no other speed horses in the race, which boils to down to their being no other American-bred horses from a flat racing background (everyone else in the race is a former or current NH horse), but Hanlon says that there should be plenty of pace for his horse to run through.
Also I now present the Televised American Steeplechasing Broadcast Drinking Game! (use beer, not liquor!)
Take one sip every time you see/hear:
-you recognize a horse that you have previously bet on while they were running on the flat. Two sips if you lost money on them.
-a strained comparison is made between flat and jumps racing e. g. "Snap Decision is the Flightline of steeplechasing"
-a post parade or winner's circle presentation at Far Hills is missed because they are instead showing horses milling about at Aqueduct. Three sips if they miss a whole race.
-"These are Thoroughbreds"
-a loose horse runs into the woods
-someone complains about the absence of a complimentary horseman's luncheon this year
-interview with obviously sloshed owners
-footage of obviously sloshed racegoers
-one of the hosts references something stereotypically Irish (Blarney Stone, Guinness, "top o' the mornin' to ya", etc). Two sips if they do this while attempting a fake Irish accent.
-college football or playoff baseball game score update (by the hosts, not by FS2)
Take one sip for every 15 minutes past the scheduled post time of 4:05pm the American Grand National actually runs at.
Drink half the glass if Keri Brion announces that The Mean Queen is retired
Chug your beer if Jack Fisher commits to sending Snap Decision to Cheltenham next year.

Thanks for all the data & links.
Never heard of the Far Hills event before so that will be interesting to watch.
Race 5 - is that a Turf flat race for Jumpers? All the other races are hurdle races.

NJRC FROM THE TOP ROPE!
So remember that whip ban that Monmouth had that was rescinded partway through the meeting? It's baaaaaaaaaack. And horsemen were informed of this...at 3am this morning. A 9am meeting with the commission was mostly fruitless. So whips can be used into fences for safety purposes but not for encouragement.
But the flat race is under HISA whip rules. My guess is that the PETA folks did some work last night...
https://twitter.com/Keri145/status/1581308242226868231
How will this affect the racing? Fuck if I know. Do they have jumps racing in Norway or Sweden or whatever jurisdiction has the whip ban? Insanity.
Anyway live stream here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoUoo9VMyfw 1st race at 12:50pm
Aaand a false start. Oh gosh I forgot about the lack of starting gate hopefully they can use the whip to get the horses together for that.

Ljay wins the 4yo hurdle. Okay if Bargary had the whip on Proven Innocent he would've won. He's a grinder, probably needed a tap or two. This is fine.

Pulling for Hoffman in this next race. New Bay is having a great day and he has one massive front sock!

The Insider blew them all away in the Gladstone, as expected. He'll be one to watch as a 4yo.

Ted Hastings and Russell win the Foxbrook! Course condition seems to be more impactful than the whip rules tbh, the Irish invaders like the softer ground.
Also "we're going to stick to the Thoroughbreds" (referring to Aqueduct) is the inverse of "These are Thoroughbreds" so I guess that's worth a sip of water.

This doesn't compute with me.Miss Woodford wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 2:37 pm Ted Hastings and Russell win the Foxbrook! Course condition seems to be more impactful than the whip rules tbh, the Irish invaders like the softer ground.

Redicean showed his back class winning the Appleton.
Joe Clancy has had to make the point on several previous occasions covering jumps races that yes, the hurdlers are Thoroughbreds doing real racing just like the flat horses. Today one of the hosts at Aqueduct after coming back from a Far Hills race said he (the host) was going to stick to betting the Thoroughbreds (at the flat track) which is exactly the kind of thing Clancy had been trying to argue against.Mylute wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 2:50 pmThis doesn't compute with me.Miss Woodford wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 2:37 pm Ted Hastings and Russell win the Foxbrook! Hewick proved his mettle romping in the American Grand National! Great story there. Snap Decision pulled a Baaeed and couldn't accelerate well on the softer ground, no shame in that.
All came home safe and sound today Moscato fell but was up and caught by the lead pony (before he could run into the woods) and led off. Hopefully the success of the Irish will encourage even more participation from overseas trainers, and perhaps they'll stay awhile longer

Mighty 12yo Andi'amu secured his NSA timber championship with his 9 3/4 length victory in the International Gold Cup today. Replays are not yet available but his running line says "jumped well, dominated".
Also at Great Meadow: The G2 Zeke Ferguson Memorial Hurdle Handicap, was won by the mare Down Royal. Bodes Well won another Steeplethon, setting up for a potential Japanese (!) cross-country campaign next year.
Full Great Meadow results here: https://nationalsteeplechase.com/wp-con ... esults.pdf
In harness racing action there are a bunch of Breeders Crown elims tonight (and some yesterday) but Bulldog Hanover isn't in any of them as the Open Pace for older horses did not get enough entries to require elims. He did qualify in 1:51.2 last week and apparently paced another full length of the track before his driver was able to pull him up, so he's ready to roll
Live feed of Mohawk plus replays is always available here https://woodbine.com/mohawk/watch-races/
