Caravaggio to Shizunai in Japan

https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/b ... HQLTOguS4Q

A bit surprised, as he has a good flagbearer this hear in Tenebrism. Guess it wasn’t enough. Cue him having 3+ Group/Grade 1 winners next year.

He stood for $35,000 this year, up from $25,000 in 2021, when he covered 178 mares (which resulted in 105 live foals - 59%. Not great for a sire of his age but still a big crop either way). I wonder if his book dropped off in size this year.

I read somewhere that Caravaggio has fertility issues

I just posted one that wasn't listed yet in Foaling Season 2022.
I had that one already. ;)

But yeah, I forgot that Coolmore doesn't send its mares to War Front anymore. Makes it way harder to find mares bred to him.

I'm glad War of Will's fertility is good, though. Eagerly waiting for his foals to hit the track.
I’m hoping Claiborne stands another son of War Front (in addition to war of will) for his successor. Fingers crossed for Annapolis!

What’s everyone’s thoughts on where Annapolis will land?

Claiborne definitely has connections with Ramona Bass, so maybe. There are no past colts to look at. Bass' successes as an owner have been mostly with fillies/mares and a few geldings.

Now we know why Taylor Made sent Midnight storm to milky way farm in California to join his former barnmate Graydar. They just announced that Idol is retiring to Taylor Made

Idol to take up stud duty at Taylor Made Farm. Stud fee has been set at $10,000 S&N.

https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... ium=social

Imo, $10k isn’t bad considering he’s a G1W and his full sister is a top contender for year end honors, not to mention his half-brother Lost Ark is a recent SW as well. The fact that he’s by Curlin out of a stakes—winning AP Indy mare is just icing on the cake.

Idol retiring there has nothing to do with the syndicate selling Midnight Storm. He just wasn't doing well enough at stud to be a commercial stallion. Hopefully he will do better in a regional market. He has 2 SWs, has never had a stakes winner in the US, one was in Puerto Rico and the other in Canada. Then his yearlings were averaging 8.6k on a 10k stud fee.

Yeah, Annapolis is possible and the likeliest candidate so far, if they decide they want another War Front son.

I think they can reach for Into Mischief level if they want. I don't know if they will go that high but I wouldn't be shocked if he was 200k. I just say this cause when Uncle Mo had his spectacular year with his first crop 3yos, he jumped up to 150k. He did have more SWs than Gun Runner has. But Gun Runner has 6 G1SWs from his first crop, that is a completely insane number. And he gets the Classic distance runners that buyers want, so breeders are going to want to breed to him.

No Nay Never is having a great year with his 2yo crop which is his first bred at the 100k fee. He has sired 6 GSWs, including 2 G1SWs, and 5 others that are stakes placed, from 60 to race.

Gun Runner has only six winners and zero SWs from his second crop so far. Do you think that will hurt him any?

Not at all. Of his 4 G1SWs this year, only 1 had even raced at this point last year. Cyberknife debuted on September 25th but didn't break his maiden til his 3rd start on December 26th. Society debuted on October 21st and won. Early Voting debuted on December 18th and won. Taiba debuted on March 5th. Even though he had immense success as a freshman stallion, in the long run his forte may not be 2yos. He just showed he is capable of getting precocious runners with the right mares.

Wonder if they will regret that if his full brother produces a Breeder's Cup winner with his first crop.

I was very surprised!
But that's excellent news for JBBA.
Best of luck to Caravaggio!!
