I love watching trotters; imo their gait is so much prettier than the pace.
Of course, the pacers can say, 'hey, we may not be pretty, but we are FASTER. :P '

Test of Faith wins the "Distaff Derby" at 1/9.

Wait till you watch a roadster class, those are some pretty moving Standardbreds. And many of them are ex-racehorses!

Would 'Roadster' showcase higher action, maybe not quite Hackney or Saddlebred, but a bit fancy?

Bythemissal wins with ease in 1:52.1. Lots of slower times tonight, I've been hearing that Dayton has been deep and slow so far in this meet and that seems to be true tonight. Not sure if it'll make a difference for Bulldog other than perhaps no track record this time.

Yes, mostly because they aren't going as fast. The action is directed upwards rather than forwards.
Here's Lucky Chucky, who was Dan Patch 2yo and 3yo Colt of the Year and is now a breeding stalllion, doing his thing in the roadster ring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRh_-Gjko1w

Parked outside every step of the way, at least 6-wide around final turn and just hit another gear and blew past a very good field like they were standing still to win by open lengths. Bulldog is something else. One of the best harness horses of all time- we are so privileged to see him racing now. Sleep well big boy- well done.

Now we hope for ideal conditions next week at the Red Mile where Bulldog Hanover will take a shot at bettering that 1:45.4 mark.

side note: I know we don't generally think of Standardbreds as "pretty" but Bulldog is very handsome imo. Reminds me of a old-fashioned Saddlebred.

Very handsome indeed. Some Aussies on Twitter saying he needs to go down under and face their best before being called the best in the world.

I think Standardbreds are very pretty, especially when they have more convex profiles. Kladrubers are awesome! The foals with this look a little goofy but they're cute. This horse Virgil was adopted through NV and he's a horse I remember quite often because of how majestic he looks. Just wish there was more gray in the breed.

Entries for Sunday's races at the Red Mile. Kentucky Futurity, Kentucky Filly Futurity, two Tattersalls divisions for 3yo pacers, and four divisions of the Allerage for older horses. Daytime card, thankfully. Along with all the top trotting 3yos most of the older horses from Dayton are back here, but the one everyone will be watching is Bulldog Hanover in the 11th race at 4:10pm. Unfortunately the weather won't be ideal for speed records, it'll only be in the 60s with dry air (=more friction) so he'll probably need some cover from the other horses and favorable winds to lower his 1:45.4 mark.

TVG should be broadcasting and DRF Harness will likely have put out another live stream for the day as they've done for Bulldog's last few races.

He's a great advertisement for the Standardbred breed and for harness racing in general.
The USTA just put out a nice little video about him with interviews with his trainer, driver and handler.

One of Lexington KY's local news stations is going to show a piece about Bulldog in their afternoon news broadcast. A station in Indiana covered him prior to the Dayton Derby https://www.wishtv.com/lifestylelive/fa ... g-records/ It's a shame harness racing doesn't have much of a national profile anymore. It's much easier to market a horse like Bulldog Hanover (or Bythemissal, or Test of Faith, or Atlanta...) than, frankly, any of the top Thoroughbreds sitting in a barn right now.

Southwind Amazon report: after taking last weekend off he went up to Northville Downs in Michigan (where IIRC he holds the all-ages track record) and finished 2nd in an open pace this evening.

Andi’amu (FR), a 12 yo gelding of some past accomplishment ( 2019 NSA timber champion) easily won the 25k Genesee Valley Hunt Cup timber race on Sat Oct 8. A beautiful crisp and cool day in the country- I really enjoyed it. Lots of horsey people, many breeds of dogs and kids all having a great time. We go every year. I do have some video on my phone but not sure how to post it here.

Atlanta and Test of Faith won their respective Allerages and Pebble Beach won the Tattersalls and I can see none of it because there is no live stream  Supposedly the USTA will have a Facebook Live broadcast for Bulldog's race but still, missed opportunity.
