To his credit, Soumillion has apologized profusely. The two-month ban will mean he misses big meetings like British Champions Day, the Breeders' Cup and the Japan Cup. So he will be taking a big hit in the pocketbook.

I've always liked Christophe Soumillon, but his apology was weak at best. The whole 'I accidentally went elbow to elbow with Rossa Ryan' seems an awful lot like an adulterer's 'It was an accident, I swear!'
No one believes them either........

Soumillon has always been a controversial jockey. He's a tactical genius, but sometimes his character makes him act very weird. Several years ago, he had already been guilty of having brought down a colleague in a race. This one spent several months in a coma and had to stop riding.
Regarding the ban imposed by the Stewards, never a jockey in France has been banned this long for an action like this. I agree, he should have been banned longer and with immediate effect. But the French Rules of Racing do not allow this for now. I guess this incident will lead to some modifications very soon.

I find it strange because France Galop has some of the strictest drug testing thresholds and penalties when it comes to positives both in horses (O'Brien horses having to scratch from the 2020 Arc in fear they might test positive under French rules after a feed contamination) and riders (Oisin Murphy's lengthy ban after a cocaine cross contamination)... but you can literally push another jockey off a horse in a group race and get just two months. Sheesh.
Between this and the whole Verry Elleegant fiasco, they are not doing themselves any favours on their biggest week of the year.

Had to go to Twitter to watch...wow. Ryan could have been killed. The 2 month ban is disgraceful, and I do NOT accept whatever weak ass apologies Soumillon gave.20hayes20 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 30, 2022 7:46 am https://www.france-galop.com/fr/courses/replays
If anyone gets a chance watch the replay of this race at Saint Cloud earlier today and see Christophe Soumillion use his elbow and shove Rossa Ryan out of the Saddle
Rossa Ryan is on the outside white with blue sleeves
Soumillion must get a lengthy ban for that incident.
Hayes
I just saw that he said this:
“I’m terribly sad with what happened”
WTH? It didn’t just happen, he caused it....and he’s allowed to ride in the Arc? The other jockeys should refuse to ride.

The G1 Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama in Japan was won by Gendarme, a 7yo son of Kitten's Joy, and out of a Sunday Silence dam.
Since this is a Japanese horse, I suspect he is still an entire. Another G1-winning son to carry on KJ's line. That makes me very happy.

Meanwhile, down under, the Epsom Handicap (G1) experienced only its third dead heat in history with ELLSBERG (by Spill the Beans) and TOP RANK (by Dark Angel) together on the line.
The other times this occurred was 1925 and 1873.
Irish-bred Top Rank is known as "Top Ranked" in Australia.

The Platinum Queen is the first 2yo filly to win the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (G1) since 1978. Pretty impressive when a 2yo can beat older horses. even with a massive weight allowance. She had finished 2nd in the Nunthorpe(G1) against older horses earlier in the year.

So how does it work if a horse wins a "Win and You're In" Race but the race conditions don't allow them to run in it? Like for example, The Platinum Queen? Her connections made it sound like the fees being paid was the main reason they were keen to come over, if the filly comes out of the race well. Obviously she wouldn't be excluded from the Juvenile Turf Sprint field but the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp was a "Win and You're In" for was the Turf Sprint. The Turf Sprint is 3/u and she is only 2. She is listed under the Juvenile Turf Sprint on the Breeders Cup contenders page. So maybe the BC already has a provision in place for something like this? I just don't think its happened since BC Win and You're In races became a thing. I also could be forgetting a horse that won a Win and You're In that got the free trip over and ran in another race.

Worth noting that he's not just out of any Sunday Silence mare. His dam is champion and multiple group I winner Believe, herself out of a half-sister to Horse of the Year Lady's Secret.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 2:51 am The G1 Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama in Japan was won by Gendarme, a 7yo son of Kitten's Joy, and out of a Sunday Silence dam.

He's always been an underachiever but appears to have finally put it all together at age 7.

Kind of surreal to see him without the headdress.

A comb-over in front and ragged mullet in the back? He should go back to the traditional head scarf, 'cause his own haircut isn't exactly flattering.
