That career came to a horrific conclusion yesterday at Fairmount when he broke down in his 41st start - Race 2 - a four horse field. Reminded me much of Go For Wand as he hit the ground hard and jumped up trying to run with his left front dangling by a thread. Sad finish to an honest horse. For the curious, avoid the replay at all costs as it's wrenching.

Starter: An allowance race in which the basic condition is that the horse has raced for a certain claiming price within a specified period of time, or since a certain date. It is intended to give those horses competing in the claiming ranks an opportunity to race without being "risked" via a claim.

Rough Sea missed a lot of racing as a younger horse (only 39 starts) but he had the best season of his career last year. He won a starter allowance at AQU earlier last month. Now he wins for fun at Parx. Parx seems to be where the 10+yos ousted by NYRA go in the winter now. 10yo millionaire Pioneer Spirit moved there too and he finished 5th in an AOC yesterday after setting the pace.
