I really hope he does go to the Arc, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up. Shadwell aren’t huge on rolling the dice that often and taking big swings. But, if there was any year to try 12f for the first time in the Arc, it would be this year. Besides Titleholder and Alpinista, it really is not a strong field coming together.

So there are some good horse going to the Arc - the 2 from Germany (they have had a good record in recent years)
Torquator Tasso and Sammarco - next Sundays Grosser Preis von Baden will tells us alot

As Pyledriver will be there

France will have Vadeni and Oneston plus Mare Australis and a few others

Haggas will have a few good ones

Godolpin and Ballydoyle will be will have a say

since Mill Reef ran and won the going has been a big factor and in recent years its been soft / heavy not often Good

If they go to Arc then the Champion stakes its a huge ask of any great horse and only 2 weeks between. I would hate to see Baaeed beat.

I don’t think Toquator Tasso will be a factor unless the ground turns bottomless.

It seems like connections don’t think Vadeni will get 12f, they have said in the past that they wanted to keep him to 10f. I guess we’ll learn more after Leopardstown.

Alenquer is a decent horse, as are some of the Sunderland horses that Haggas has, but they would need to come on massively to have a say.

Ballydoyle is lacking a middle distance superstar, or any 3 year old and older superstar. I’m sure Luxembourg will come on from his comeback, but who else is there? Tuesday? Broome? Their last races aren’t enough to win an Arc.

The Godolphin older horses have gone off the rails. I’m shocked they haven’t retired Adayar, and Hurricane Lane looks like he hasn’t trained on and has been MIA for a while now. Their best three year olds are all best at 8-10f.

Pyledriver and Alpinista are the best hopes that England has, as of now.

In 2019 I shared that:

South Korean star Dolkong has probably been retired. He suffered a proximal sesamoid fracture in his left foreleg during a trial on November 22, which he won (injury was discovered afterwards). His injury is reportedly treatable. The owner is holding out hope of him racing again (Dolkong returned from a 10 month absence due to a foot abscess as a four-year-old) but he'll be six next year, quite possibly seven before he can *maybe* race again.

And to my surprise, he apparently recovered and has returned to racing.

Major bummer. I know some complain about the strict protocols and the MRIs for foreign horses racing at the Melbourne Spring Carnival, but if said MRI discovered an “issue” (extremely vague there) severe enough to keep him from racing in Australia and merit immediate retirement, then I guess the whole procedure and protocols do work. At least in this one specific instance.
