Great article. Starts with a focus on Sunday Silence but branches out to include other stallions later. Also how the JBBA doesn't like to bring in too many stallions from the same lines and likes to keep diversity in their stallions lines. At the end they even threw in a pic of Johannesburg enjoying life as a pensioner.
20-year-old Silent Name boasts the distinction of being the only son of Sunday Silence currently in service outside of Japan.
AFAIK King's Trail is still around in Italy. https://www.allevamentorenaccino.it/sta ... nglese.php
Yeah I questioned that and that no Heart's Cry sons, besides Yoshida, are outside of Japan but its not that easy to search for that stuff. Some countries just don't advertise their stallions.
Thank you for sharing!!! :D

Yes, that's definitely a great article, one of the most comprehensive reports on the Japanese racing & breeding at present.
And it's nice to hear about King's Trail(JPN) who ran his final race in Ireland in 2013.
I'm wondering how Vita Rosa(JPN) is now doing in Italy.

And it looks like Legolas(JPN) is still standing in France.

** there are a few Sunday Silence sons that are still in training as of now.
Mejiro Bailey(JPN), the 2000 JRA champion juvenile colt, died of old age at Tohoku Bokujo where he had been pensioned on June 28th 2022.
He was a rare Sunday Silence offspring who was bred and raced by Mejiro Bokujo which used to be one of the major owner/breeders in Japan. (Mejiro Bokujo was taken over by Lake Villa Farm.)

May he rest in peace.

The Yasuda Kinen winner Songline(JPN)(Kizuna) is now likely to run in the BC Mile at Keeneland this year. 8-)
She will have a prep race in the Centaur Stakes (Sep 11th at Chukyo) before leaving Japan.

I hope she is a "handy" horse on turns. The Del Mar turf course, set inside its main dirt track, is rather small compared to the sweeping grass courses of Japan or Europe. May feel a bit like suddenly moving from a 1-mile track to a 5/8 one.

Well, the Keeneland turf course is also set inside its dirt track, so it's also small compared to the tracks with which Songline is familiar.

The Sunday Silence genes are so strong. I feel like you can look at a lot of his descendants and just tell he is the progenitor, even if he is 3 or 4 generations back.

That's true.
And that must be one of the reasons why her connections decided to make her run in the Centaur Stakes 1200m turf at Chukyo before leaving Japan, while she had never raced at 1200m.
Her owner Shunsuke Yoshida commented that Songline would have to be prepared for a faster pace in the Mile at Keeneland.
Chukyo Racecourse has at least a tighter turn than Tokyo Racecourse where she won the Yasuda Kinen 1600m, too.
Songline is a closer.
But she may have to race more upfront than usual at Keeneland to win the Mile.

This is exciting news! Barring unforseen circumstances, the BC Mile will probably have the best field.

I agree!! :D

I always wonder if Sunday Silence will get a ''chef-de-race stallion'' status some day, even if I don't know if the study of Dosage is still continuing now.
