Backsideofthemoon, banned from running at NYRA tracks because he's 10-years-old, just won a $134,000 race at Churchill Downs.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Nice. Backsideofthemoon says "Take that - you New York ageist snobs". The boy is creeping up on a million in earnings. Nice ride today by Tyler Gaffalione...

Nicely done. The NYRA rule is so incredibly stupid, and even dumber is the fact that there will not be any exceptions made for steeplechasers in the upcoming Saratoga meet. NYRA is very lucky that none of the top US hurdlers this year happen to be teenagers. Wasn't all that long ago that a win in the NY Turf Writers Cup made the difference in 10yo Mixed Up earning Eclipse Champion Steeplechase honors.

I've seen the lovely Mr. Sipp wreck many a horse over the years. Should have been banned from all tracks after selling those lost souls who could not win for him any more to slaughter houses. Despicable human being.

Very sorry to report that 11yo m Lady Joyfull, who was mentioned often in these War Horse posts, was euthanized due to her extremely poor condition. She was retired from racing at Camarero in April of this year after her 125th start, and it was hoped that she could eventually move on to a second career here in the states. Yet another case of a horse literally being run right into the ground purely for greed. This from Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare who desperately tried to help her:

"Before each race she was subjected to a myriad of injections, and over the course of years her veins were rendered useless. At some point she was injected with tainted product, which gave her Equine Parvo virus and Equine Hepacivirous. Her liver continued to be ravaged by the content of continued injections, which led to chronic cholangiohepititus and biliary fibrosis. These injections did nothing to enhance her performance, as evidenced by her race record, instead they sealed her fate."

Pointing a finger at Camarero is justified, but unfortunately, it's all over the place. Sic Transit Nausea.

If you happen to be interested in learning more about this long suffering soul, read about Lady Joyfull (Ellie) at Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Facebook.

Lady Joyfull (Cosmonaut - Rain Delay, by Grand Slam). 125 - 10-11-12, $105,447. RIP.

Last week or so, I think at Saratoga of all places a 7yo maiden was running.

Which begged the question, has anybody ever made it to your list as a war horse finally breaking their maiden?
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I seem to recall a few - a long time ago on Victoria's old TBC site, before the big 2013 crash. A couple of 12yo's at a Canadian track (Marquis Downs ?) hit the jackpot, but I cannot recall their names. Your question has sparked my curiosity now, and I'm trying to remember some of those horses - which could turn out to be a futile exercise...
