Agreed.Palace Malice wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:48 pm Titleholder is a freak. He might be their best Arc contender since Deep Impact/Orfevre.
I wonder which jockey they will put on him
I think he is a freak whose racing style is totally different from Deep Impact or Orfevre.
His trade mark is a front running with his tremendous stamina, while Deep Impact/Orfevre's were accelerations with their turn of foot from the final turn into the stretch.
Titleholder looks more like an European stayer, and, pedigree-wise, his dam side is quite European with full of stamina influence, too.
Kazuo Yokoyama is likely to retain the mount of Titleholder.

Much respect to Seina.! Will be watching her.
Of note the 2nd place horse was also pretty amazing,(Taisei Vision,) who carried 9kg more than the winner, under jockey Kawada.
Any idea why Taisei Vision had to carry so much weight? (isn't that like 19.8 pounds in U.S. metric?) I found this weight burden somewhat shocking

That TM Spada (F3) 48 kilograms (106 lbs) vs Taisei Vision (H5) 57 kilograms (126 lbs) was a bit shocking.
The CBC Sho was a handicap grade stakes.
And a female apprentice jockey is given 4 kilograms (9 lbs) in most of the mounts in JRA, but this rule does not apply to handicap races, graded races etc.
So the 48 kilograms was not for the jockey but for the horse.
TM Spada had never placed in a graded or listed stakes before, while Taisei Vision was a multiple graded winner (G2 & G3) and came into the CBC Sho off a second in a listed race.
I personally thought 55 or 56 kilograms (121 or 123 lbs) could have been right for Taisei Vision.
But, even so, TM Spada's victory with 3 1/2 lengths was decisive.
Both horses are likely to run next in the G3 Kitakyushu Kinen.
Let's see what they will be given over there.

Ivar (Agnes Gold) just won the 1 1/16-mile G3T (I think?) Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis in his first race this year. He really looks black.

Yes, many of that line are almost black. Very nice to see this horse back in the winner's circle on his 2022 debut. He's talented and might have another grade I out there with his name on it. Trainer Paulo Lobo is so good with horses off of long layoffs.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 5:35 pm Ivar (Agnes Gold) just won the 1 1/16-mile G3T (I think?) Jonathan B. Yes, that’s definitely a wonderful win for Ivar off a nine months layoff.Starine wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 6:27 pmYes, many of that line are almost black. I guess that he will be pointed next to the Arlington Million.
And his ultimate goal will have to be the BC Mile!!!

JRA has an update on this in its new guidebook.tachyon wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 8:31 pmJapanese fans want to see more foreign-based horses!!
There must be several reasons for why foreign-based horses rarely come to big Japanese races.
2. Quarantine procedures may be a bit too complicated for the visitors.
https://japanracing.jp/en/horsemen/rule/quarantine.html
--> JRA is now building a new quarantine facility within the yard of Tokyo Racecourse, which might reduce concerns from foreign connections.
