I was very happy with Alpinista’s win, but disappointed with Hurricane Lane. He didn’t really have any excuses today.20hayes20 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 10:32 amBrilliant training performance from Sir Mark Prescott been of the track for 8 months and wins the group 1ThreeMustangs wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 10:20 am The Frankel mare Alpinista won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (G1), her fourth G1 win in a row.

Charlie Appleby's Adayar will not run in the King George later this month.
Looks between Desert Crown and Westover its a race that does favour the 3 year olds.
Of the older horses the German horse Torquator Tasso can be thrown into the mix and looks to be coming back to his best ,he would love cut in the ground thou.
Coolmore hasnt got a decent 3 year old colt this season that ive seen.

Missed the Coronation Cup, Prince of Wales’s, Eclipse, King George… I don’t think we’ll see Adayar again.
It’s a shame that Hurricane Lane appears to not have trained on as well. It looked like Appleby had all the aces for older middle distances horses in 2022.

That is really cool.
It's possible that we will see more Euro horses come over for our grass races, since our purses are higher and I believe travel restrictions have relaxed. I think there are 8 - 9 European entrants in this weekend's turf stakes at Belmont.

Among many things I despise about slot welfare purses is that they are basically a poorly disguised wealth redistribution machine- encouraging the lower income hoi polloi to lose more than they can afford out of sheer boredom and misery in their lives in order to hand it over to ridiculously wealthy people.

Forgive my ignorance, but...what are "slot welfare purses?"

Well-beaten seventh. He apparently didn’t like the ground.
Two G1 wins for rider Rob Hornby in two days. Nice to see after he was taken off subsequent Irish Derby winner Westover.

The way NYRA can afford to offer a purses of $700,000 and $1 million for Belmont Oaks and Derby as well as ridiculous MSW purses is due to money coming in from Resorts World slots, NOT racing handle. Same with Kentucky stuff- they just call it historical racing, but they are still slots. Parx and other less prestigious tracks can afford to have "big" days and pretty much stay in business only because of legislated welfare from incoming slots money.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 1:03 am Forgive my ignorance, but...what are "slot welfare purses?"
Just remember this (along with the vast amounts of state and federal money that is given to agriculture) when certain people in racing sneer at the "nanny state" and "welfare queeens".

I would guess that these gambling (slots) establishments are making a LOT of money, so seeing some off their profits turned over to maintain horse racing is a good thing, IMHO. IIRC, when gambling destinations cut out the racetrack next door from sharing any monies, the track...and all the owners/trainers/riders...suffer.
