Love him. I am assuming he's a late season baby so he won't actually be two until then.

It looked like Oaklawn Mile contender Runnin Ray has a white spot on his left side. Could be from an injury but I couldn't tell.

Uniquely Colored Standardbred Filly Makes A Splash
https://paulickreport.com/horse-care-ca ... -a-splash/
Not even bred for color, but came out looking like Airdrie Apache.
This is crazier because basic white markings (star, stripe, socks) aren't even that common in standardbreds. They barely have gray.

I'm guessing this is a new mutation like it happened in thoroughbreds.Mylute wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 10:09 am Uniquely Colored Standardbred Filly Makes A Splash

Sire has three white feet and a star, which is more white than like 90% of STBs lolPalace Malice wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 3:37 pmI'm guessing this is a new mutation like it happened in thoroughbreds.Mylute wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 10:09 am Uniquely Colored Standardbred Filly Makes A Splash

There are a few extant lines of tobianos in the breed and I've heard of a few "freak" splashy or white STBs over the years.
Macahan Loss S https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/macahan+loss
White Bliss https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/white+bliss Who incidentally is the same cross (Art Major over Direct Scooter) as the sire of the new colorful filly.
Via Lattea https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/via+lattea
but AFAIK no extant bloodline is known for regularly throwing sabino/splash/DW/frame/whateverthehell babies. Standardbreds had an open studbook for much longer than TBs and there was a lot of crossover with Morgans and Saddlebreds so you'd think the breed would have more color but their gene pool has shrunk even more dramatically than TBs in the last few decades thanks to AI and >90% of what lines remain are bay or brown.
edit: a few more

Ahhh ok, must've looked at the wrong standardbred stallion
Point still stands though. This is much more of a surprise than it is with thoroughbreds.

There's already been other standardbreds that have cropped up, and there are over 30 named W white spotting patterns out there now including the notable TB ones.
She'll likely be mapped and the gene given a new W name.
This wouldn't have come from the sire of dam, it's a new mutation started with this particular foal. And if she's like most, she'd pass that on roughly 50% of the time when bred later on.

Very interesting marking. Is he also greying out in a patch across his forehead?
Since he's a gelding, I guess this mutation will be his and his alone.

Frankel over Dubawi—that’s one I’d love to have in my stable.
