There is a reason why stallions shouldn't be breeding 100+ mares over-and-over. Trying to push the envelope by not listening to the horse by injecting him with a libido enhancer that expired nine years ago is purely negligence and animal cruelty. They killed that horse. Good for insurance not paying out.

Libido enhancer. He already covered 126 mares, and was basically not interested anymore. They shot him up with this cocktail that expired nine years ago.

For what it is worth, the expiration was likely not the reason for anaphylaxis because usually meds that expire are less or not effective. However with injectables, they are also considered to be no longer sterile and the things growing in it usually cause an infection. Of course, these things can also possibly cause anaphylaxis. I guess. Still agree with the total lack of horsemanship on the person making the decision.

Holy sh!t, what a horrible look this is for WinStar. I’m not against IV injections for maintenance or helping to treat an ailment, but libido enhancer? What the hell.

I had been giving the operation the benefit of the doubt this entire time, but to hear that the horse died because he needed a shot to cover more than 126 mares. Disgusting.

it makes you wonder how often stallions like Into Mischief get injected. 296 mares bred in 2018 and never less than 200 every year since 2013. Malibu Moon was 24 and had been bred to 84 (individual) mares when he died a month away from the breeding season.
Into Mischief's numbers:
2009 - 61
2010 - 44
2011 - 54
2012 - 50
2013 - 210
2014 - 202
2015 - 215
2016 - 220
2017 - 264
2018 - 296
2019 - 267
2020 - 250
2021 - 216
it's all horrible and farms like Spendthrift, Coolmore, Three Chimneys (who were all so offended by the Jockey Club's "greed" of attempting to force them into a breeding cap ), WinStar, etc., should all be ashamed of themselves treating the stallions as if they were breeding machines.

I hope the Jockey Club will grow a spine and try again to get a stallion cap mandated. The sport will never fail to take a rake to the face any chance it can get.

Win Star should be forced to shut its doors.....they don’t give a damn about these poor horses; the horses are commodities with which they make their money, that’s all. This is unfathomable greed and cruelty

The vet accidentally gave one or more of the shots intravenously and Laoban started going into distress less than a minute later. They said they have video of it. So while we know more now its still the same as its always been. He died after getting a shot that was mistakenly given intravenously. Even with the vitamins being 9-10 years out of date, they wouldn't have killed the horse. That was probably why they gave 5x the amount though.

I also understand why the insurance company wont pay out the insurance. You have to set standards. Otherwise, you'd get shady people offing horses for insurance money like they did back in the 80s. Its crappy that they lose the money the horse is worth but maybe they need to learn a lesson. Give the horse a freaking break if he doesn't want to breed anymore. Instead of trying to inject him with crap that probably wouldn't have done anything anyway.

And not defending WinStar here either but I guarantee there are A LOT of farms, maybe even most, that do similar things. Wanted to add they also do the same at the racetracks. Vitamins are given via shots, so if the person given it messes up, then its not going to have a good outcome.

Collusion illusion. My racehorse has sold him to a breeder in Ontario,Canada for stallion duty. The breeder is in the process of building stallion facilities specifically for collusion illusion. Collusion illusion will be shipped to Ontario,Canada and will take up stallion duty at this facility in 2023 upon completion of construction of the facility
