And they will cover absolutely anything for the stud fee.
Saw a post last week with a breeder with a coloured TB mare who was booked into Goldencents. She was unraced, from a whole family of unraced and/or raced but non winners or single race maiden winners. Zero pedigree basically. And he's not even on the bottom ladder of their cheapest sires. Imagine what they'd breed to them
do you remember who the breeder was?
and they'd probably breed a mule to their stallions if you paid enough
They wouldn't live cover but they already sell collected semen to other breeds. I saw a pic of a foal by Into Mischief out of a QH Mare earlier this year.
yeah there's that as well. i have no idea how many times IM was collected but i personally think it's absurd and abusive to breed them this much. at least 214 covers (not counting multiple covers for one mare) + collecting is inhumane. and the 210+ is a trend for him. believe it was 296 in 2018. they're not machines and their hearts aren't built for this.

This story is kind of odd but hey he is back to stud.

Odd indeed. I guess him not being well supported after his first season isn't surprising at all for Coolmore, but for them to just quietly remove him from their roster due before a buyer stepped forward to stand him is just... weird? Maybe they needed his stall cleared out

Usually it seems like Korean, Turkish, Japanese, Chilean, Italian, etc. farms are lined up for Coolmore cast offs, whether they be fresh off the track or after a couple seasons at stud. I'm just surprised that no farms came a-knockin at the end of 2021 so Coolmore was just like "screw it, let's just wrap it up and quietly pension him until someone comes along to buy him".

Not complaining about it, I honestly rather see that than the horse end up in an unsavoury situation.

Yeah imagine being a breeder calling asking where The Gurkha is cause you want to breed to him and they are just, Hey want to buy him or hey you just want to stand him yourself? I guess it doesn't necessarily say they sold him but still.

Shout out to Slumber who gained another graded stakes winner today in Sy Dog (homebred for Sol Kumin et. al). Sy Dog is undefeated on turf-wonder if they’ll ever try dirt.

Slumber has 22 total foals from 2018-2019, and 5 runners so far this year. I hope breeders will give this boy more opportunities since with such limited crops he already has Fluffy Socks and now Sy Dog

Upstart now has KY Oaks and Derby favorites... I loved Flatter as a racehorse, love him as a sire, and so it’s wonderful to see Upstart doing so well

Upstart’s Fee is currently listed as Private. Is this bc they increased his fee during the breeding season? What do you think is the reason?

He is having a really good year but overall, besides his very first year, he hasn't been that popular. They had announced him at 10k last fall. I wouldn't be surprised if they put him at Private early or even late last fall after they announced his fee because he wasn't getting enough bookings. Like have to keep in mind that before March 5th he only had one G3SW and his oldest crop is 4yos. Since March 5th, he now has a 2 new GSWS, a G1 and G2 SW. I'm sure he will get more bookings because of them but I doubt that was enough for them to put him private.

Is there a chance they put him Private pending the results of his offspring? A KY derby winner and KY oaks winner in same crop may cause his stud fee to improve dramatically.

Thanks for the article about Slumber. Here’s hoping success for him going forward!

No, it’s because they raised his fee. He’s full now, but still trading for a select few mares at an even higher price by switching out the farm’s own mares.

Wow, nice! Flatter is getting up there, so his having a son to continue his legacy is a wonderful thing.

Ocean Vision (U S Navy Flag - Balaagha, by Mr. Greeley) became the first winner for his sire. His dam is a 1/2 sister to Letgomyecho (dam of Echo Zulu and Echo Town).

Mo Town had his first winner at Keeneland yesterday: the aptly-named Mr. Gordy. His first starter, Baytown Get It On, finished third at Keeneland last week.

Laoban is reported to have died following an injection of "Black Shot", given to him to raise his libido after he was unable to breed for two days in May. as long as we have no breeding cap, stallions will continue to drop dead because of greed.
