Go for Gin, memorable for three reasons. My first "in person" Kentucky Derby - I was stung in the parking lot after the race by the biggest hornet that ever lived - and my first and very last mint julep. RIP Gin, one of the lucky ones.

Sam-Son homebred, 2000 Queen's Plate winner, and Canadian champion Scatter the Gold (Mr. Prospector x Dance Smartly, by Danzig) has died aged 25 at Sekrekov Stud Farm in Russia. He stood in Japan before later going to stud in Russia in 2011, where he was far more successful as a sire. In Japan, his best offspring was Erimo Expire, who was second in the G1 Spring Tenno Sho.

Var, winner of the G1 Prix de lAbbaye de Longchamp and a highly successful sire in South Africa, died January 5, 2022 age 22.

He was bred in the United States and a son of Forest Wildcat.

Owner/breeder Eugene Melynk has passed away. Condolences to his family and friends.

He owned such stars as Lukes Alley, Hillaby, Leigh Court, Flower Alley, Sealy Hill, Pool Land and Marchfield.
