Those are sturdy little legs. She's adorable.mariasmon wrote:Check out Piber Stud's first foal of 2014, a filly by Neapolitano Madera. Piber breeds the Lipizzaners for the Spanish Riding School. The sire of this filly is among the active performers at the shows in Vienna.

My bad. That was their first FILLY of the year. They've also welcomed this colt, who has been named Conversano Spadiglia IV-84:mariasmon wrote:Check out Piber Stud's first foal of 2014, a filly by Neapolitano Madera. For those of you interested in the Lipizzans, PBS had a 1-hr. Nature special that focused on the breed...their history, the founding of the Royal Stud, and the standards demanded of both the stallions and mares to continue the breed. The footage of the mares and the foals in the huge mare barn, all of them sharing this huge, straw-filled hall, was sweet, but the videos of the older colts running loose in the alpine meadows was spectacular.
They pretty much live a natural life until they start their training at around three. And the young mares are given the same dressage training as the colts...even if they never perform for the public, they are still judged on their athleticism and intelligence. Only the best become the Stud's broodmares.
You meet some of the stallions and get to watch some training sessions and performances. Cool horses, prized not only for their athletic ability, but even more for their strength of character.

Watched it a couple of weeks ago and it's really well done. The scenes following the mares and foals were so different than anything I'd seen before. Definitely a must watch...BaroqueAgain1 wrote:For those of you interested in the Lipizzans, PBS had a 1-hr. They don't even begin to work these horses until they are four....even with their big bones.mariasmon wrote:Check out Piber Stud's first foal of 2014, a filly by Neapolitano Madera.
