Speightster was euthanized following a stall accident at Northern Dawn Farm in Canada. He was only 10.

There is something called Equine Metabolic Syndrome which can cause a horse to exhibit similar symptoms but as it has been explained to me, is different in terms of causation to Cushing’s. My vet and I have suspected that Border Run has had Cushing’s for a few years now. We tend to be simplistic about it and be aware and treat symptoms as they arise. As long as he acts happy and wants to eat, we just take it as part of the package.

the article mentioned spinal injuries :shock: my first thought was a paddock accident, and i was guessing they meant in retirement. never crossed my mind but you're definitely not wrong, that could easily have been a breeding shed accident.

At the very least, it makes horses susceptible to laminitis. I wondered if that was the issue.
