They have their own BEES, the runoff from their composting operation waters their homegrown willow trees, which they then cut down and burn as fuel for their staff quarters.

Raising bees might be the smartest decision Coolnore ever makes, especially if pollinating species continue to become scarce.

I watched the entire 40minute video. The scenes of hay farming/tree farming/bees and even some of the groundwork I saw them do with their youngsters went a long way to making me think better of Coolmore. Well, at least their Irish divisions anyway.

Do any of the farms in Kentucky do something similar?

Australian Authorities Investigate Surrogate Scandal
Ultra Thoroughbreds, owned by Sean Buckley, the breeder of Feb. 13 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (G1) winner Nature Strip, was identified Feb. 16 as the operation being investigated for conducting the alleged scheme

One of the mares in question is believed to be Miss Andretti, the 2007 Australian Horse of the Year, who has reportedly had a history of issues conceiving foals.

The Shadwell fire sale continues, with 40 entered in the Tattersalls February Sale, comprising 30 colts and geldings in and out of training and ten fillies. Including a newly turned 2 year old half sister to Tagrooda, a two year old Sea the Stars colt out of Oaks 2nd Tarfasha. I guess they weren't showing enough in pre-training to warrant at least trying to race them? Kinda bizarre.

Octogenarian breeder Don Goodwin, who breeds from a total of two mares, stole the show at the New Zealand National Breeder Awards this weekend. He is the breeder of Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant.

I noticed that Pin Oak Stud had picked up 2 broodmares in the opening session of the Keeneland November sale and thought that odd. They purchased Core Values for $425,000 and Diamond Sparkles for $500,000. The article is now out. The farm has been purchased by Jim and Dana Bernhard, who are keeping the name. It all started with Jim buying a Thoroughbred for Dana as a birthday present, now they are going full fledged. Great to see new owner/breeders in the sport.

A great article about the Head family and their famed Haras de Quesnay operation, which is currently being dispersed. I knew they were legends in French and international racing, but the prominence they had in the 1950s-1980s is stunning

It probably explains why Winx didn't get in-foal.
