I have many reasons for disliking Coolmore and what they have done to thoroughbred racing via their breeding philosophy, but number one with a bullet will always be their rote approach to naming.
I had to Google what “arrogate” means...
She died last year and was an active broodmare so couldn't reuse her name yet. Its 5 years after the last time they were used for breeding and while her last foal was born in 2018, she was bred in 2019.Slewfan2 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 6:28 pmI had to Google what “arrogate” means...

Combined with Songbird, I love the idea of using Christine Daae from Phantom of the Opera. I know there was a mare with that name back in 2007, but the Jockey Club allows duplicate names.
Ah, thank you!Flanders wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 6:37 pmShe died last year and was an active broodmare so couldn't reuse her name yet. That name was already used for a Nyquist filly that was unfortunately one of the horses that died during the issues with the Laurel track surface. She was undefeated in 4 starts and brokedown during training. But again it shows that the JC has little issues with some names being EXTREMELY similar while others that aren't that close are Rejected for being too similar. But maybe they gave it the okay because she was dead.....
