Wouldn't that be something?

Someone has to break down preconceived ideas.
The Sunday Silence bloodline may create another miracle.
I would think that it's up to European breeders (for the National Hunt).

If Oju Chosan is to stand at stud somewhere, I think France is most likely to pick him up. They are more known for racing entires over jumps, entires who were sired by jumps sires and from jumps mares. Based on what I've seen, they're also more likely to dabble in lesser-known bloodlines. They also have a strong Anglo-Arabian and cross-bred breeding industry than other racing nations.

A recent unique acquisition is Tunis, a Polish-bred stallion who raced in Poland as a juvenile but was bought by French connections and later raced in France. He currently stands at Haras de Cercy.

Of course, France also has Dabirsim, who comes from the SS sire line, like OC. I wonder if anyone would be interested in OC for show jumping rather than NH?

Maybe crossed with some Selle Francais mares? ;)

Legolas, by Sunday Silence, ended up as a jumps stallion in France from 2009-2019. He has a tiny amount of progeny racing, but his son Horantzau D'airy is with Willie Mullins and looks to have a promising future. So… not unheard of for a Sunday Silence descendent to have some luck as a jumps sire.

Legolas would be 20 now, I can’t find out if he is still alive or not, but he hasn’t has a publicly listed stud fee since 2019.

Name European flat horses who were likely to beat Oju Chosan in that year in the same filed. :D

He is a much more competitive thoroughbred than what you may want him to be even on the flat, in my opinion.
And Japan will never send the potential Hall of Famer to be a stallion for the Show Jumping in Europe.
Period.

Laughable.

He was not even a stakes starter.

Pretty sure I saw Legolas listed on France Sire.com.

Why the hate on Legolas?

ETA: Yes he is at Haras TEK and has foals born as of 2021. Some of them are listed as being AQPS. I did say the French are more experimental with studs.

They have an Instagram and FB from my initial search

Needless to say, I don't hate Legolas at all.
And I always appreciate French people who are open-minded to introduce Japanese horses.
But Legolas was not the same class of thoroughbred as Oju Chosan.
Oju Chosan is a much more competitive racehorse than Legolas in my opinion.
So Legolas' unsuccessful stud record in France won't make Oju Chosan's potential stallion prospect negative.
That's what I meant to say.

Oooh OK. Typing online loses the nuance. Hopefully Oju gets picked up by someone.

There's 20+ pics of Legolas on France Sire's website. The site says he's 1.70 meters tall, which Google says is roughly under 17 HH (16.7899889 or something). He definitely looks tall in the pictures, especially compared to his handler. Maybe that's why they named him Leg-olas (lol).

Killer Ability(JPN), 2019C. Deep Impact(JPN) x Killer Graces(USA) by Congaree(USA), won the G1 Hopeful Stakes 2000m turf at Nakayama in the stakes record time on Dec 28th 2021.
His jockey Takeshi Yokoyama collected his fifth JRA-G1 title, his most recent being in the Arima Kinen with Efforia just two days before!

This was probably the best moment for the Sunday Silence bloodline in 2021. 8-)

Let's re-watch one of our top performing posts of 2021!
That post-race celebration by the connections of Marche Lorraine (JPN) was legendary!
(But, how did they know that she was the winner in that photo finish? haha! )

Looks like he had just come in from the paddock.

I wish I had been A) alive while he was racing B) sentient to watch him ascend as a breed shaper in Japan. I think he might be my all time favourite American racehorse.

If we had had social media back then, the Rachel vs Zenyatta fan battles would have paled in comparison to the Easy Goer-Sunday Silence debates. I loved EG while my husband loved SS. 1989 was a tense year in our household.
