It's hard to change attitudes about slaughtering horses for food when horse meat is considered a normal source of meat in that society. :(

Horse slaughter isn't going to end. There are too many countries that use it as a source of food, its done in both Asian and European countries, just not all of them. Also horse leather (yes that is a thing) is a high end leather used to make shoes, boots, belts, wallets, bags, suitcases, etc. Even if it was ended for eating, people would still do it so they can make their designer items.

Oh I know it isnt going to end, and there is a global industry for horse meat and byproducts. Too many horses are produced globally each year, so many horses can, and should, be humanely slaughtered (rather than be neglected or given substandard care). There simply aren't enough people to care for all of them. However, Korea's cavalier and often cruel attitude to disposing of the majority of their racehorses, seemingly regardless of pedigree or race record (sometimes hours after they have run their last race) would keep me personally from selling a horse to Korean interests. But that's just me. I also don't own too many graded stakes winning stallion prospects so I'm sure the problem won't arise any time soon.

Unique incentive for buyers of Justify progeny in Australia.

Not yet sure if its genius or insane &/or confidence or desperation. It will be talked about though.
Ask me any questions you have about New Zealand and Australia racing

I think "It will be talked about" is probably the point. :)

Anyone know where Air Force Blue went? He's on the press release of 2022 fees for Ashford, and listed on Racing Post as still being there, but on 2nd crop sire rankings he is just listed as "moved" and is no longer on Coolmore's website. He was doing pretty poorly as a stallion, but the lack of press release or even a tweet is quiet, even for Coolmore.

Northport wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 10:08 pm Not being sarcastic, it’s nice to see a racing owner buy back former horse even without a firm plan of next steps for the stallion. I wonder if WinStar was shopping international offers and Rocker O Ranch caught wind or were given first right of refusal.

Not that all international stud farms are automatically sketchy (though I would never sell a horse to Korea, Libya, Peru etc, knowing what we know now). But if a horse gave you the thrill of a lifetime and you can afford to keep him as a lawn ornament or to find a small farm to stand him… why not?
I hate asking this question because I'm afraid of the answer. Are horses in Korea at high risk now? The US has exported lots of horses to Korea over the last couple of decades, but I'm seeing growing hints that it's a dangerous place for an equine.

I'm just wondering if bad news has been coming out of there for some time and I just haven't seen it. I don't think I've been living under a rock lately, so it really bothers me that I might have missed something like this.

Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.
A quick google search of Korea Thoroughbred Slaughter will unfortunately lead to many cases and articles about it. I know some are from PETA, but all bias aside their investigation is damning.

Japan has made an effort to rehab their image since the days of Ferdinand, but Korea doesnt seem to be bothered by their reputation, not to mention the dire lack of space to hold any horses that arent actively racing or breeding.
Thank you Northport, and any others that have contributed, for bringing me up to speed on what's going on over there. Since I've apparently been deaf to the buzz on Korean slaughter, I've just assumed, incorrectly, that horses in Korea were in no greater danger than those in Japan. Japan has worked very hard (successfully) to clean up their practices and public relations since the Ferdinand tragedy, and I guess I assumed that Korea just went right along with them.

Guess not! Kinda scary!

According to the CTBA, G2W Big Runneur (Stormy Atlantic) will enter stud in California for 2022. No farm listed on the site yet.

Big Runneur also won an ungraded stakes and has a record of 8:4-1-2. He won the two stakes at age 5.

Pretty nice "me and the boys" video from Northview of Engage, Irish War Cry, First Mondays, and Great Notion chilling together.

Meanwhile, I've discovered that MGSW Kasaqui (Lasting Approval) is now competing in eventing. He has shown up on the report of mares bred list as least once, covering a handful, but he has no foals listed on PQ. He is G1P and also known for having been in an accident on live TV (he was OK of course). I remember when this happened, Derby Day 2016!

I've been trying to find out since Nenikikamen23 asked on November 30th but haven't found anything. Air Force Blue doesn't have an open export but I'll try to keep an eye on it.

He only covered 2 mares in 2018, producing one foal for sure. But I can't find anything about name or dam of the resulting foal.

The bad thing is, that foal may not have made it because if you use him on Equineline as a hypothetical sire of a foal, it says he has zero foals of racing age.

Pas de Trois(JPN)(Swept Overboard) sired his first group winner, as his 5yo son Dancing Prince(JPN)[o/o Little Blessing(JPN) by Bubble Gum Fellow(JPN)] won the G3 Capella Stakes 1200m dirt at Nakayama on Dec 12th 2021.
That's wonderful news for the End Sweep/Swept Overboard sire-line. :D
Pas de Trois is standing at Lex Stud.
And Dancing Prince is slated to run next in the Riyadh Dirt Sprint on the Saudi Cup Day!!
