Congrats to Contrail for going out a winner, with his ears pricked. None of the foreign entrants really made any impact.

Contrail’s retirement ceremony:

If the Breeder’s Cup hadnt already made Yoshito Yahagi your favourite Japanese trainer, him riding Contrail at around the minute mark of the above video might. Panama hat and all.

That's cute. Contrail is ubothered.

If I was a trainer you would catch me doing this quite often.

He is a gorgeous horse. Hope he continues his sire's legacy. 8-)

It looks like Sodashi(JPN), the only 3yo as well as the only female runner, is being sent off as the favorite.
Can she really emulate her sire?
Kurofune(USA) was the monster on the Japanese dirt.

Disappointing result for both Sodashi and Cafe Pharoah. Hopefully the former will return to form when she is back on the green.

T O Keynes(JPN), 2017C. Sinister Minister(USA) x Maxim Cafe(JPN) by Manhattan Cafe(JPN), was a very impressive winner!!
He is definitely the best dirt horse currently in training in Japan!!!
As for Sodashi, I just hope that Naosuke Sugai provides her with enough rest.
She lost weight and didn’t look like she was enjoying after her debacle in the Shuka Sho.

I've been trying to find any activity on Black Lotus (American Pharoah /Arravale) , but he last raced back in April this year. Nothing since. Anyone know?

I know that he was sent to the farm after his third start in April.
And he has not come back to his trainer Kanari Takashi's stable as of Dec 9th.
That's all I could find on the internet at the moment.

https://db.netkeiba.com/horse/2018110090/

Here below is the official list of the registered horses who are currently held by Kanari Takashi.

Thank you so much for looking up Black Lotus, Tachyon! I've had a soft spot for this one even before he was born and hoped he would turn up somewhere. I noted that in the images from one of the sites you posted shows his right lower foreleg has been shaved. Before was away from his mom; that leg was surgically straightened and I wonder if somehow it had become injured with the rigors of training and racing. I hope not. I guess we will see but your efforts in finding him give me relief!

You are welcome, Gibraltar!

I've just figured that the photo (on netkeiba.com) you noted had been posted by ''Equine Racing Co., Ltd'' in this summer.
And I know that the representative of Equine Racing is Dr. Masaru Sese, a veterinarian in Hokkaido.
So I believe that Dr. Sese examined Black Lotus(USA).

Here below are the links to Dr Masaru Sese's Equine Racing.
https://twitter.com/masarusese
https://equineracing.jp/

I remember him examining the famous American Pharoah filly Reframe(USA) last year.

Reframe(USA) and Dr. Sese.

I can't know what exactly happened to Black Lotus.
But I hope that he will get well soon, looking forward to seeing him at the track.

Wow! Thank you again, Tachyon. I have been following Reframe too; through Yamaguchi Stable on Twitter. He has painstakingly worked with her and brought the best out in her. I will follow up on the information that you kindly have provided and hope that eventually Black Lotus will fare as well.

Glad to hear that you've been following Reframe and Yamaguchi Stable tweets. :D
Masaru Sese must have been one of the good collaborators of Yusuke Yamaguchi.
And the message boards at netkeiba.com are sometimes helpful, though in Japanese.
