How sad, but she lived a long and wonderful life. She was from Indy’s first crop, one of the first to show how important a BMS he would bestarrydreamer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:45 am The wonderful and well-bred broodmare She's a Winner was euthanized. https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... ized-at-25

They always are a presence at big broodmare auctions, but the Yoshidas, particularly Katsumi Yoshida, have been on a tear this autumn. He’s bought one seven figure and 4 six figure lots at Tattersalls this week

I hate when 3yos are bred, I hope they race her at 3 but doubt it.Northport wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 2:34 pm They always are a presence at big broodmare auctions, but the Yoshidas, particularly Katsumi Yoshida, have been on a tear this autumn. i don't remember who it was, but a Japanese breeder (maybe tachyon knows?) bought Lilacs and Lace right around oaks time, and immediately bred/shipped her. that one never made sense to me, but i guess they were super desperate for a foal from her...? doesn't look like it paid off either *shrug*

It was Northern Farm, Katsumi Yoshida.sweettalk wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 8:30 pm i don't remember who it was, but a Japanese breeder (maybe tachyon knows?) bought Lilacs and Lace right around oaks time, and immediately bred/shipped her. that one never made sense to me, but i guess they were super desperate for a foal from her...? doesn't look like it paid off either *shrug*
Her first foal didn't do much but her 3rd foal(she didn't have a foal in 2014) was multiple G1SW Lucky Lilac.

''Lilacs and Lace sold to Japanese breeder''
https://www.paulickreport.com/news/bloo ... e-breeder/
Does anyone know who bred her to Henrythenavigator? -- Jim Covello? or Katsumi Yoshida?Grade 1 winner Lilacs and Lace has been sold to a Japanese breeder, and the filly's former majority owner Jim Covello tells the Blood-Horse, she's already been bred to Henrythenavigator.
A Japanese source mentions that Katsumi Yoshida purchased Lilacs and Lace who had already been bred (in foal) to Henrythenavigator.
But this is not so reliable. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%A9 ... C%E3%82%B9
It was ten years ago.
But I'm just curious. (I'm not a big fan of Katsumi Yoshida. And I have absolutely no intention to defend him. I just want to know the truth.)

Don't take it as me talking bad about him. I definitely didn't mean it that way. I've seen 2yos sold in foal at the November sales in the US before which is way way way worse. I just personally wish they'd wait longer. But I know wild horses get in foal as yearlings sometimes.tachyon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 7:23 am-- from paulick report dated June 8th 2011Flanders wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 8:38 pmIt was Northern Farm, Katsumi Yoshida.sweettalk wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 8:30 pm i don't remember who it was, but a Japanese breeder (maybe tachyon knows?) bought Lilacs and Lace right around oaks time, and immediately bred/shipped her. that one never made sense to me, but i guess they were super desperate for a foal from her...? doesn't look like it paid off either *shrug*

The Bloodhorse article said it was Yoshida who chose to breed her.

I also read another article about Flotus where they said there was a chance she would remain in training and if she did she would finish her racing career in Europe, then ship to Japan to be a broodmare.

You gave me another reason for why I'm not a big fan of Katsumi Yoshida, the richest breeder in Japan.Flanders wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 8:30 amDon't take it as me talking bad about him. Thank you!!
Lilacs and Lace(USA) was bred to Admire Mars(JPN) this year, by the way.
And her Multiple G1 winning daughter Lucky Lilac(JPN)(Orfevre) was bred to Rey de Oro(JPN) this year.
