Perhaps it's the photo, but he's quite underwhelming.
I think his neck looks short, but he’s not terrible. He’s leggy!

I mean, he looks fine, more or less. He's not flashy and he's not so well put together that I think "wow" - but he's not so unbalanced or ugly that I cringe.

I've seen other pictures of him where he looks like a tank so I think it's just this one shot.

guess this sounds silly but if they're so dead set on that white background why don't they have like a portable white backdrop to pose their stallions against?

I guess those Photoshop-obsessed farms don't care if anyone who looks at these outlined "conformation" photos assumes that there was some "editing" during outlining to flatter the horse's appearance.

I hate the white background formation pics as much as anyone. I would hope that most breeders actually go out or have someone that knows conformation go out and look at the stallion before breeding their mare to him. I think the conformation pics are just more an "idea" of what the horse looks like. Of course most farms do have walking videos up as well.

Well, the truth is that you really can't see a horse's full conformation even in the best photographs. A still photo, by definition, is a flat one-dimensional image. So yes, a conformation photo can only ever be an idea of what a horse looks like live. Unless there is an obvious fault, I don't take conformation photos seriously and only view them as providing an overall impression, nothing more.

I'm still a bit shocked he's that trim and weedy a year into retirement and a breeding season under his belt.... at Claiborne. Even more so given that sire line.

I don't know what to say really.... Its amazing that they got all their stallions to stand at the exact same spot, with the exact same lighting conditions, and not enough a leaf moved in the background.

Why do stud farms do this? Its no different than the solid white background but I find the stamping onto a background somehow worse? Comparing the stallions and the background (since they are all on it) makes the one look like TINY and some of the others MASSIVE.

Mondialiste still manages to look lovely, outlining and all.
