I'd consider him in the top bracket of stud fees. He used to stand for 100k for quite a few years. But his yearling sales results forced his stud fee down from that high a few years ago. I think that was probably because while yes he gets nice runners and is a great stallion that can get runners on any surface/distance, the big spending buyers are looking for Classic horses and I don't think Classic sire when I think of Speightstown. Sure he has gotten horses that are best at middle distances but I think sprint sire when I think of him. His stud fee did go back up to 90k for 2021 though.

I'd argue about the sire of good stallion sons though. Munnings yes, not any others though. I guess Central Banker is doing okay for a regional stallion.

Chrome is doing better at stud so far than his US sales results indicate. He has winners in the US, Canada, France, Japan, Chile and Russia. He has stakes winners in the US, Japan, Chile and Russia -- both colts and fillies. The Bloodhorse Leading 2nd Crop Sires list does not include the Southern Hemisphere stats, and I'm not sure they include smaller racing jurisdictions such as Russia.

So to see Chrome's 2nd Crop Sires standings in Bloodhorse, one has to sort that list by "Racing Area, North America" and "Standing Area Northern Hemisphere." By that sort, Chrome is #10 by progeny earnings and co-#1 by number of graded stakes winners. He has an excellent 42.7% winners to runners in the NA/NH sort, but a considerably higher percentage worldwide. Same with the black type winners stat. They only show 2, but he has stakes winners in other countries. Same with progeny earnings...the BH stats do not include his progeny earnings from the Southern Hemisphere (and possibly other smaller jurisdictions).

The other thing about the Chromes is that they are versatile. They have won on dirt, turf, synthetic, and on fast tracks and off tracks. They have won from 5f to over 1 1/8th miles. And some of them have been bought by sport horse owners.

I've always liked More Than Ready, and it looks like he is standing for $50K this year. Though I guess he doesn't have a great stallion son (although there was Sebring who looked promising and it'll be interesting to see how Daredevil continues to do).

I've always liked More Than Ready, and it looks like he is standing for $50K this year. Though I guess he doesn't have a great stallion son (although there was Sebring who looked promising and it'll be interesting to see how Daredevil continues to do).

Same - he's a good looker, he sires good looking horses, he sires both dirt and grass horses, both male and female, and he's a good broodmare sire. To me, he's the total package, and $50k is a lot but a steal for him, really.

Agreed. He just quietly churns out G1 winners in two hemispheres year after year. He doesn’t get the fanfare that Danehill did, but I’d say he is the best duel hemisphere stallion since… well… Danehill.

There's a lot, Bloodhorse has 45 but about half of them haven't had a stud fee update in a few years, which means they are most likely pensioned or gone. The previously mentioned Freud, being by far the best left. Bluegrass Cat is in Turkey, Yankee Gentleman (broodmare sire of American Pharoah) is in Louisiana. I know it feels like a really long time ago that he was pensioned but his youngest crop was born in 2009, though to be fair there was only a few foals in his last crop.
