Letgomyecho wasn't bred last year either. Do we know if she is still alive or maybe they pensioned her? She does not have a death report but she has had a ton of foals.

All that rush to retire Siskin to stud… just so he can cover 20 mares.

Yeah, 20 is an unusually small number for a Shadai's new recruit from abroad.
I was surprised, too, even if I hadn't expected a big number for Siskin, anyway.
As I wrote before below, I wonder if Shadai misjudged the market when they set his stud fee.

Shadai has not provided with any official comment on his small number yet.
But there are some rumors on the Japanese board that Siskin had a minor accident during the breeding season, had to suspend his duty and may restart next season.
We will see the truth later.

Re. Siskin who only covered 20 mares in his debut at stud (Shadai).

We have come to know the detail of his 2021 coverings:


He started to cover some mares (mostly Shadai group's quality mares, not attracting mares outside of Shadai group) as early as Feb 10th, but suspended duty at the end of February, while his conception rate was disappointing (at less than 50%) for some reasons.
He came back in late March to cover one mare successfully (mare in foal), but that was last covering for the 2021 season.
I would think that this is in line with the earlier talk that he had a minor accident (or illness) during the breeding season.
Fortunately he is still on the Shadai's 2022 roster (with a slight setback in his stud fee).
