She scratched from the Astoria and ran in a MSW at Monmouth instead, winning by 7 3/4L. It would have been interesting to see how she would have done against Happy Soul.Starine wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 8:10 pm Mainstay, Half Sister to Vequist, to Debut in Astoria

Interesting note on Cazoo Epsom Oaks winner Snowfall (Deep Impact-Best in the Word). Her dam Best in the World is by Galileo out of Red Evie. The third place finisher in the Oaks was Divinely (Galileo-Red Evie). Red Evie is also the dam of Found.

excited for this, but kind of... uninspired by that name. at least it wasn't one of THOSE names... "havre de tapit" would have been a very real possibilityStarine wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 8:13 pm Royally bred Graceful Princess ready to fulfill potential in Obeah Stakes

Graceful Princess finished a distanced fifth in the Obeah. The track was really muddy and she was stuck on the rail behind several horses, so she may have hated the kickback splatter. But even when she had open track in the stretch, she still didn't seem to have any acceleration.

Won first time out. With this pedigree, it would be interesting to know why he was gelded.

Good question. Super unruly? Even if he worked slowly before his debut you'd have to think they'd give him a chance to run before jumping the gun. But what do I know?HB1994 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 12:51 pm Won first time out. With this pedigree, it would be interesting to know why he was gelded.

I saw something similarly confusing when I watched Australian racing Friday night. Converge (Frankel) won a G1 stakes for 2yo impressively. His dam was bought while in foal to Frankel by a Hong Kong owner, who wanted a stallion prospect from the foal.
So...he has a very good runner, winning a G1 and (IIRC) 2nd in a previous Group 1 race.
Reading articles about the race, I find that Converge is a gelding.
Great pedigree, really good runner...and this 2yo has already been gelded? I thought the buyer wanted a stallion prospect...which he has. Except for the gelded part.
WHY?

I noticed this as well and was very surprised! With Girvin at stud and Enforceable/Midnight Bourbon likely to stand somewhere after they retire, I guess no one will be hurting for the bloodline. Still, an interesting decision.Starine wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 7:59 pmGood question. Super unruly? The third-place finisher of this race was Southern Flag, whose dam is half to MGSW India (dam of G1W Mozu Ascot, SW Kareena) and SW Pilfer (dam of G1WS To Honor and Serve, Angela Renee). Second dam is Summer Wind's Farm foundation mare, Misty Hour.
