It's oddly reassuring that even the big guns can have bad years. It would make room for the little trainers if it weren't for Ballydoyle dominating everything else :?
I wonder if that has anything to do with him putting Thady on the license?

Hasn’t Thady been John’s right hand and the travelling trainer for the yard when horses race abroad for years now? I feel like it was just a change on paper when they added Thady to the license, since it only became an option for the BHA last year. All of clients wouldve already been used to Thady co-training.

Also the lack of three year olds wouldve come from no decent two year olds last year, when Thady wasn’t a trainer of record yet.

Trainers have highs and lows, could also be a sign of the times that more major owners are downsizing or pulling out of English racing entirely due to poor prizemoney. All of Lady Bamford’s horses that were with the Gosdens are in France now, and maybe a couple are in Ireland (or just King of Comedy pre retirement?) She used to be a major owner for the yard.

I am too, but I don't get TVG anymore. Not sure if there is another way to watch.

For this night-owl Left Coaster, getting up pre-dawn is going to be a challenge. Maybe I should just not go to bed in the first place.

One name to watch for the future: Best Of Lips. :D Next start: German Derby. (I admit though I'm completely biased in that case, because I knew his trainer back when he just started to learn how to be a jockey, but I still think he is really, really talented).

I was thinking the exact same thing after looking at results this weekend. I haven't been able to find replays of his races, but every time I look at top German results the last couple months, he's right there.

Palace Pier (Kingman) delivers in the G1 Queen Anne - a rather expected, mundane start to the meet.

Lope Y Fernandez (Lope de Vega) was second and Sir Busker (Sir Prancealot) third.

I didn't start watching until shortly before the Queen Anne, so I didn't get to see the Royal Procession...unless there wasn't one? Is Her Majesty in attendance? :?

Poetic Flare, 5 runs in 65 days! Jim Bolger, 79! Amazing stuff, Teofilo really was one of my favourite horses and to see Jim get another solid horse is so wholesome.

The Queen likely will not be attending until later in the week, although several Royals are there today.

Thank you very much! That turn of foot was electric, I really hope we see him in a big International race at some point this year. Germany produces such quality horses, despite their small crop sizes. I am still not over the fact that we never got to see Sea the Moon race abroad.
