I third Life of Bean. As a person who rides an 18 year old warmblood that is an absolute maniac, Life of Bean put my struggles into perspective and made me realize that my horse isn't nearly that crazy when compared to Bean.

Does anyone have access to paid content on Racing Post? I'm interested in the full story for the mare Snow Leopardess who has apparently had 2 (or one) foal and returned to racing multiple times.

I was watching TVG's racing coverage from Australia last night...and was surprised to see Belmont Park on the schedule. Yep, Oz has its very own Belmont Park race track..

Wow. No wonder their purses are so low.

The British horseplayers will never accept parimutuel betting as the only option, and the bookmakers aren't about to let the racing industry dip into their profits. I love watching and betting British racing, but there's something wrong about this.HB1994 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 12:39 pm Wow. No wonder their purses are so low.

Uhh how long has the Derby been referred to as "the Cazoo Derby"?

Since April 1. Cazoo is an online car retailer and have purchased naming rights to the Epsom Festival and its races.

I never thought I'd ever see anything worse than "the KY DERBY presented by YUM Brands", and I probably still haven't, but this one comes mighty close!!WaquoitNBroadBrush wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 8:00 pmSince April 1. Shouldn't the name be CARZOO?

Major news from Ballydoyle that only Bolshoi Ballet will contest the Epsom Derby (no, I am NOT calling it the Cazoo Derby), leaving Frankie free to partner with the Ed Dunlop-trained John Leeper.

I wasn't aware of Bolshoi Ballet until now

I have looked those over many times, I think the horses have a very pleasant "emotional life" being trained at those centers and private yards.KatieD wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 5:27 pm We don’t really have them. Here in the UK, horses aren’t trained on racecourses but at specialist training centres like Newmarket, Lambourn, Epsom (details here: https://jockeyclubestates.co.uk/ ) and Malton, or on private estates.
Better than living on the backside for months at a time.

If I were an owner, I would without question want my horse stabled at a European style yard. However, something I have learned in the many articles about the stable staff crisis is the toll that racing out of a yard can have on staff. In England and Ireland, staff only get 1 1/2 days off every two weeks, and on race days they are waking up for morning works and chores, then driving the lorry to the racetrack where they are racing that day (or one of the many racetracks they have horses entered in, if it is a bigger yard).MySaladDays wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 6:33 pmI have looked those over many times, I think the horses have a very pleasant "emotional life" being trained at those centers and private yards.KatieD wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 5:27 pm We don’t really have them. If it is a normal card, they will hopefully be done and back on the road home with the horse(s) by 7 or 8 pm, but if it is a night all weather meeting, they may not be leaving until midnight or later. By the time they get the horse home and put away, they have almost no turnaround before they have to be right back at work. And that's just assuming you are racing at your local track, not one of many that are hours away from bases like Newmarket or Lambourn.
Overall, for the health of the horse, I still prefer the European style of stabling, but just some interesting stuff that never occurred to me until the last couple of years.

Something about Bolshoi Ballet being the only Coolmore horse entered is very ominous. I feel like they have some grand plan we don't know about... or they are tired of so many people, both civilian and professional, complaining that entering 7 horses with the same owner and trainer has ruined the race.... which TBH it kind of has. On paper, Wings of Eagles and Serpentine had almost no chance, yet here we are.HB1994 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 7:23 pmHis win in the Derby Trial at Leopardstown was impressive.

I am also bummed Van Gogh won't get his chance to run, he looked like he could relish 1 1/2 miles.

Personally, if it were me and I had so many nice horses I would want to spread them out instead of putting all of them in the same race. Sure, maybe enter two in the same race, but in general I would want to divide and conquer.

Super impressive! You don't often see any horses in UK flat racing pull off by that great a margin because no one wants to be penalized in the weights down the road, but obviously that was no concern to the connections of that filly. Either that, or no one behind her ran a lick and she demolished them by default; longshots filled out the second and third slots, and several well-regarded contenders, including the favorite, were out of the money. I'm sure the Deep Impact fans on this board are celebrating tonight.

Godolphin 3rd stringer Adayar (Frankel X Anna Salai, by Dubawi) wins the Derby under a brave rail skimming ride by Adam Kirby, who had been jocked off John Leeper earlier this week.
