IIRC, Buchiko's and her family's white lineage may be the result of a genetic mutation...but it must now be a dominant color gene, when so many standard-colored stallions are having white foals.

Yes its dominant, if the mare (in this case) passes that color gene on, it will be expressed. Its like grey in that, if the foal gets a grey gene from a parent it will be expressed. Its a mutation of the sabino gene. Normally in breeding to get a sabino to express that much white it needs 2 copies of the Sabino gene. The genetic mutation made that not needed in the Shirayukihime line.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 2:33 pm IIRC, Buchiko's and her family's white lineage may be the result of a genetic mutation...but it must now be a dominant color gene, when so many standard-colored stallions are having white foals.
I've always wanted to see a photo of Wave Wind, I remember her half brothers (Smile Again and Halo Sunshine) racing in the US and they were plain bay/minimal white, as were both her sire and dam.

It's a KIT mutation, which is common in TBs. While similar to sabino, it is not a mutation of sabino. Sb1 has never been found in TBs.Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:18 pmYes its dominant, if the mare (in this case) passes that color gene on, it will be expressed. You are welcome!
In the meantime, G3 winner Hayayakko(JPN), 2015H. King Kamehameha(JPN) x Marshmallow(JPN)[Kurofune(USA) x Shirayukihime(JPN)], won the Sleipnir Stakes 2100m dirt at Tokyo rallying impressively from the last on June 19th 2021.
If he can become a stallion (<-- although I'm not yet sure if he has done enough to be), we will see a numerous number of white thoroughbreds in a few years.
Will we see a coup d'eta of the racing?
