France shied at some flowers in the infield, unseated rider, ran off after 5 fur workout today. Horse and rider appear no worse per wear as per David Grening on Twitter.

Huh, I know it's a small sample size but it seems like Japanese colts coming to the US tend to be rather flighty/tougher to handle. Is being "spirited" more accepted in Japan or is it just the newness of the surroundings?Squeaky wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 11:36 am France shied at some flowers in the infield, unseated rider, ran off after 5 fur workout today. TVG showed a tape of France' losing his exercise rider right after they passed the wire in the colt's workout. They then had an interview with trainer Hideyuki Mori, interpreted by Kate Hunter. Apparently, the exercise rider lost his balance and stirrups when he stood up after the wire, and that the colt didn't do anything to dump him.
The rider remounted and took him back in the paddock to school. Everyone is fine.

Good to know - someone on the David Grening Twitter feed said he shied but I did not see that either. Strange that an experienced exercise rider would lose his balance for no reason though.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 1:24 pm TVG showed a tape of France' losing his exercise rider right after they passed the wire in the colt's workout. Neither Halo line not Tapit line are known for their cuddles. Throw in Dynaformer and one begins to think Hail to Reason might just be the source and there is a LOT of H to R in their pedigrees, not just through Sunday Silence.Miss Woodford wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 1:07 pmHuh, I know it's a small sample size but it seems like Japanese colts coming to the US tend to be rather flighty/tougher to handle. I've noticed that the Japanese almost NEVER geld their colts, so there's going to be a LOT of testosterone in the air around the paddocks/gate/track. After watching Lani audition for a porno when he came over for the Derby, and Gold Ship nearly kill gate crew trying to load him, IMHO the Japanese do tend to not go to great lengths to curb "spirited" behavior.

Aww... so that was an eventful morning for France Go de Ina and his connections yesterday!!
Fortunately both the horse and the rider were fine.
I sill don't see why the rider had to fall off!
But this incident certainly made the horse famous, haha!
Honestly I have no idea about what he can do in a tough field of the Preakness.
I just guess that he will race toward the rear in the early part of the race and make up ground in the final straight.
I would love to see him close well at least in the Preakness, as I wonder if his principal target would be the Belmont.
Good luck to France Go de Ina.
It's really nice to see a Japan-based runner take on TC races!!

France Go de Ina finished seventh in the Preakness.
I was very surprised that he raced upfront.
But I'm sure that most of the Japanese fans watching the race live were happy with his effort as he showed some move on the US dirt at least.
Hope he will come out of the race fine and head to the Belmont as planned!!

Love France Go de Ina's "deep set eyes". He somehow looks wise beyond his years.
Tachyon, forgive my ignorance, but who is this beauty with the long nose?:
