So they sent a mare who had trouble staying sound to a sire that had trouble staying sound. Sounds about right for modern breeding.

Larry Best proving yet again that he really needs to hire a racing and/or bloodstock manager. Dude's spent at least $30mil in the last 5 years at the sales, with 20 horses purchased as yearlings or two year olds, plus broodmare purchases like Concrete Rose and Blue Prize... and tbh he doesn't have much to show for it.CorridorZ75 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 5:52 pm So they sent a mare who had trouble staying sound to a sire that had trouble staying sound. Take a gander at "Top Horses" then "Auction History" of literally any one of his horses. Cheapest I can find is $350,000 as a yearling. Most are between $900,000 - $1,500,000 at two year old sales it seems.

In general I agree, but I have to give him this: out of the 20 horses that have raced under his name, 6 are stakes winners (30%), 4 of those are graded stakes winners (20%). 2 of the 12 colts he raced those are now starting stud careers in Kentucky (16.7%). Those numbers are actually pretty good, well above book 1 averages. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Northport wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 10:22 pm Larry Best proving yet again that he really needs to hire a racing and/or bloodstock manager. I think he's trying to pull a Ken Ramsey and is aiming to get his stallions off the ground by supporting them well himself.
(Now, should Instagrand be starting a stud career...)

She talks a lot more freely about genetics and testing than any other interviews I've seen this year and it's great to see someone trying to raise classy stayers
Not encouraging.

As a breeder it depresses me that more thoroughbred breeders do NOT care as much about soundness and genetics and hereditary issues as I do...I want the breed to last and be sound for future generations...and hold up for second careers...and with bloodlines like this we know this foal will probably cycle into the gene pool in a few yearsSummer Bird wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:47 pm Poor Concrete Rose went to Instagrand for her first foal. Although Concrete Rose and Instagrand are beautiful, flashy bays and Instagrand has quite a bit of chrome so I am looking forward to this foal next year to see if it inherits daddy's looksSummer Bird wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:47 pm Poor Concrete Rose went to Instagrand for her first foal. No offense to Three Chimneys but they don't really have any proven stallions worthy of a mare that nice.Nenikikamen23 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 6:13 am I heard Guarana was retired, any predictions on who she'll see?
I would guess Into Mischief or Uncle Mo.

I wouldn't be surprised to see her sent to Gun Runner. He isn't proven but his foals look real nice, and Three Chimneys might pull a Beholder/Bolt d'Oro mating. But Into Mischief or Uncle Mo would make a lot of sense. I do hope she hasn't been retired though, I've loved watching her.Northport wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 11:21 amNo offense to Three Chimneys but they don't really have any proven stallions worthy of a mare that nice.Nenikikamen23 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 6:13 am I heard Guarana was retired, any predictions on who she'll see?

Interested to see that the dam of Colonel Liam was bred this year to Copper Bullet rather than back to Liam’s Map. I guess they both have UBS in the pedigree and CB less expensive.
