Tachyon, thanks for posting the photo of the new Japanese Chrome baby. I looked up the mare's pedigree and see that it is very interesting. Candy Barows' sixth dam, War Kilt, was a full sister to War Relic, the most successful of Man o' War's sons at stud. Man o' War's male line still survives today through War Relic's descendant, Tiznow.

This branch of War Kilt's family improved a lot when Affrettata, dam of Candy Barows, was bred to Sunday Silence grandsons. Affrettata produced two stakes winners by Admiral Moon, a maternal grandson of Sunday, and one stakes winner by Deep Impact (Candy Barows).

Candy Barows is line-bred to Halo through his champion sons, Sunday Silence and Devil's Bag. Also, Candy Barows brings a cross of Seattle Slew to her foal by Chrome, who is from Slew's male line.

Thanks again, Tachyon. First, I hope you and your loved ones are ok after that big earthquake. Then...the foal is adorable. I'm delighted 12 Deep Impact mares went to Chrome last year. He's had a very respectable number of winners in his first crop and one G1 placed filly, but no stakes winners yet. He's had winners in Russia and France too. I'm hoping he nicks great with mares descended from Sunday and other Japanese stallions.

A few people here have said Chrome's second and third US books had better mares than his first, so I'm excited to see his last two crops run.

He has a nice one in Charles Chrome who I expect will probably grab a stakes in Indiana soon. This is the one who won by 12+ lengths.

I would rate Chrome's first U.S. book overall at about a C+. Although there were some interesting mares, overall it wasn't a strong group. Charles Chrome has won two of his three lifetime starts to date, with one second. He was sold last October in the Wanamaker's Online Thoroughbred Auctions and brought the highest price in that sale.

I wouldn't be shocked it St. Patrick's Day turns out to be an good sire. His race record may be a far cry from his Triple Crown-winning brother's, but he's got the genes.
I know there are other sibling sire successes, but I think my favorite is Giant's Causeway and Freud.
