It was me that wrote that. If the foal didn't have clearly visible goggles, I would think the filly was a rabicano and had similar coloring as Oxbow. Is it still possible she is both? I'm not great on color DNA besides absolute basics.

There's an inherited neutropenia in Collies that results in grey colour in newborns (Grey Collie Syndrome), and dogs that suffer from black hair follicular dysplasia have grey puppy coats.

The white on the loudly marked foals is the result of genetic factors that reduce the availability of neural crest cells. These cells are also the progenitors of nervous system cells. It's harmless in most cases, but in pure breeds that have extreme white genetics (dalmatians, white bull terriers), there is also a high incidence of deafness. It's why color patches show up on ears and/or around eyes. The developing organism tries to finish the nervous system before freeing up pigment forming cells.

According to the Breeders Cup nominations site, Indian Miss has foaled her Into Mischief colt; the colt will be half to Mitole and Hot Rod Charlie. She has a juvenile filly by him as well.

It's generally more common on homozygous grey foals, but no unheard of with those who are not (as in this foal's case).
